Seems like the old videos of 30hz vs 60hz vs 144hz they just replaced 30hz with 144hz, 60hz with 240hz and 144hz with 500hz. This is now a gimmick imo.

IMO anything above 120Hz is a gimmick. Maybe 144Hz feel better but that it. That's the boundary we can perceive and mid and lower GPU can hardly reach 144Hz. So, 500Hz is ... !!

Because someone with better biological hardware will win. If you took two players with the same skill, then the computer hardware would matter more, IMO. The one carrying on 60hz probably has great tracking, switching, and flicking aim. This video shows advantages at like, what, 20ms? That isn't going to help someone play against someone who can accurately flick you at 250ms if it takes you 600ms. Having a monitor that improves your gameplay by even 100ms isn't going to help.

I like that they are literally using a *slow motion camera* at *1000 FPS* in order to capture how "choppy" it is at 144hz. As someone else said, the benefits are exponentially smaller the higher up you go, and will only truly matter for a select few people. 144Hz is plenty for 95% of people, and driving that at 1440p is difficult enough.

well, when it comes to refresh rate, they have beaten any CRT, but motion smoothness, yeah, thats a whole diferent beast
@moozooh
@moozooh 2 жыл бұрын
Jokes aside, top-tier LCDs and OLEDs are actually far better than the best CRTs in terms of both smoothness and refresh rate (resolution and scaling have been solved long ago as well-take any modern smartphone and try to compare the smallest font size that remains legible on it with one rendered on a CRT). There's an oft-overlooked fact that CRTs as a technology is fundamentally susceptible to ghosting because that's one of its core principles. It's easy to demonstrate with a simple experiment: turn the lights off, put on a black background and move a white square over it. Enjoy your ugly long-ass trails! The reason why you even see the picture on CRTs as a picture rather than an invisible burst of energy every time the electron beam crosses over your pupil is that phosphors illuminated by the beam glow for a little bit before they fade back to black. There is a physical limit to this phenomenon since they need a certain amount of time to "cool down", this process can't be accelerated and hence can't be solved with higher refresh rates, but the length of the trail is proportional to the contrast between the two objects, so it's not always noticeable. Technologies like OLED can potentially eradicate the issue completely since every pixel is illuminated individually so there's very nearly no "crosstalk" between then, but they're still too expensive to compete with LCD. Not to mention any high-end LCD panel is expensive itself.

Is Nvidia misrepresenting how refresh rate works during the last sequence? The player on the 144hz monitor progressively falls further back. Yes he is updating at slower intervals, but should catch all the way back up the instant he does update...... And then fall back behind while he's waiting to update, and then catch all the way back up. again.

@@CoolJosh3k Tournaments uses 240hz monitors as a standard and 144 fps is not as hard anymore to hit in competative games like CSGO, Valorant, Overwatch and Fortnite. You can pretty much use the cheapest i5 or Ryzen 5 5000 series processor with a budget graphics card like a GTX 1650 or 1060 and get atleast 170 avg fps on the more GPU heavy games like Overwatch. On CSGO you can easily get over 200 avg fps with these processors

Funny thing, is: not so long ago, 60hz animation was the same as the actual 144hz. 144hz was just like 500hz today. Weird...
540Гц - совсем нечто невероятное.
