Need a fast SSD? Well, this is probably it - Crucial's T705 is the fastest consumer M.2 SSD right now and can read data at nearly 15,000MB/sec! Twice as fast as a PCIe 4.0 SSD and.....it comes in white!!!
I take a look at it's speeds in synthetic tests and games to see if you should buy it or save your cash and get a PCIe 4.0 SSD instead.

I have a laptop that has pcie 4. Will there be any benefit to go for this pcie 5 memory instead of say Samsung 990 Pro? I would think that we may see some benefits as the bottleneck will not be the drive but the interface. Am I correct? It will be great if in one your next sessions tackle such questions.

There will be no benefit. It won’t run any faster than a PCIe 4 SSD but it costs three times the price. Even if there were small benefits it would absolutely not be worth the extra cost. That and it will likely throttle in a laptop anyway. Laptops will need very elaborate cooling to stop these new SSDs throttling

I suppose these speeds will be the norm in a few years and yeah I wouldn't say no to the 4TB as my X670E-I ITX board does support it. But wow those prices!

Does it need to be on a motherboard with an M2 PCIe5 slot to get those speeds or was this tested on a motherboard with PCIe4 M2 slots?

You need a motherboard with a PCIe 5 M.2 slot. I used an NZXT B650E motherboard which has one

PCIE 4.0 max speed is around 7500MB/s. so you need a premium motherboard to get PCIE 5.0 M.2 slot to get that speed.

Randon 4k q1t1, Ive tried to quickly look this up but it doesn't make sense. how does in come into play in gaming? The read and write i understand are used for loading a game, is the 4kq1t1 represent the data in the gaming interface as the game is played? Anyone can explain this in practice with laymen's terms?

4K random speeds are often more important than peak/sequential speeds as they’re more similar to the majority of tasks an SSD will face. Ie requests to read and write lots of smaller files and not single large files. Games do have large files as well and that’s why faster SSDs can cut load times and help with video editing but random 4K results dictate how responsive a system will feel in relation to the SSD when the system is accessing lots of smaller files at the same time.

I replaced the Limited Edition thermal pads with grizzly thermal pad extremes and i couldnt be happier. My bottleneck is my Gpu. I have a 4090. My cpu is a i9-14900k. This ssd is so fast. I dont even get the microsoft logo it goes right to login 😂

I prefer to buy two 2TB PCIE 4.0 SSD with RAID 0 setup to reach that speed and have double the capacity.

Speed varies with size. More Mb goes with faster speeds

I have an rtx 2070 super. As soon as the rtx 6090 releases, I will buy the very best PC I can without spending too much for unnecessary things tho. But I will buy a fast ssd.

Only synthetic data? It's a little useles saying it will open games faster based on a synthetic benchmark and not showing actual load times, in seconds. Maybe it's because the results would show that the price delta is not worth at all. For me it seems like a way to please the brand for providing the sample unit, and not a way to please the viewers with useful information. Sorry, but this review was a no-no for me.

Loading games consistently is very difficult as so many things vary especially if they need an internet connection. The 3D mark tests use real traces and game files to mimmic load times in a repeatable manner.

real world you wouldnt notice it, plus gen 5 runs so hot it thermal throttles so you wont get the speed you think lol

It’s okay with reasonable airflow but yes I’d agree. Even just to make it look like it’s the fastest SSD out there. Something big and aggressive especially as it’s a limited edition.

@@CrazyTechLab For an SSD like that you would need a small case, so that the airflow will have much easier time reaching it. I think its really cool that they come out with gen 5 speed but totally not needed for the average person at home. I'm still using a 970 evo plus at home and i keep being amazed by the speed lol

using an optane p1600x as a OS, cache and page file drive + a wd sn850x will be much faster in the real world and cheapee too. 450MB/s random read to the t705's 90MB/s. 😂 Sequentials continue to be almost utterly meaningless in the real world
