Wedding ring, batteries and capacitors. Uh Oh! When I was an apprentice mechanic, I saw a tradesman short out his watch on the back of an alternator before they used a rubber cover over the terminal. His watch band glowed orange immediately and fused all of links together. We tried cutting it off, but it was fused to his skin and he was screaming with pain. He had to get skin grafts around his wrist. So I freak out when I see people with jewellery working with electrical.

Hahaha, love your energy, it's such a contrast to us quiet types :D It's crazy they're doing so well with just 800 watts of power in. But I wonder what their average power draw is, I imagine the batteries are fully discharged at the finish line, thus upping their real power a little over the panels.

Thaaanks for commenting here... quiet people are awesome.. without the quiet ones, loud people wouldn't contrast that much hahaha =] Yes, it's kinda amazing what ultra high efficiency electronics combined with amazing aerodynamics can do! They can cruise using solar only but solar works better with battery. During the race the idea is to use the battery as little as possible so it lasts and they can use if to boost speed strategically during the race.. this is why they're so obsessed with efficiency... They start the race at full charge and are allowed to charge once during the whole 3000km race... I really want to come over to check it out in real life this year... will be so much fun =]

Thaaaaaaanks.. this solar electric car project is reeeeeeeally impressive... these young engineers are taking technology to the next level haha this car is so efficient and aerodynamic that it can cruise at 50kmh or faster using much less energy than my electric bike hahaha.... Winning formula is: efficiency + aerodynamic + lightweight = amazing machine!!! ohh yeaahhh...

Yeaahhh isn't this PCB design so freaking cool? Nowadays packs are designed a bit different but back on the days in 2012 when they designed this car it was a suuuuper genius and really clever idea!!!! I was very very impressed, these engineering students were really thinking outside of the box ohhh yeaahhh =]

Yeah. I really liked the idea of copper vias through the PCB. Plus the design is so sturdy and modular. To replace a module all you have to do is just remove some bolts.

When you say PCB what do you mean? I didn't see any PCB on the pack at all? It looked like the plates on the end were just all copper?

Inner side of those plates had PCB. Like the Aluminium clad PCB used for LEDs, I guess.

"Efficiency, efficiency, efficiency". So your solar array is 80V but your battery pack is 150V? that means that your MPPT works in boost converter mode. That usually have worse efficiency than if it worked in buck mode most of the time. Are you however using some clever switching of battery sections, so charge time is shared between the individual, lower voltage battery boxes?.

+Elias Piano Music heeeey Elias, thaaanks for your comment, haha I know my intros are super ultra ridiculous and overkill but it's kinda like "my brand or signature" that people got used to see in my previous videos... I always advice people to turn the volume down before playing my videos haha... some guys said that they clicked on one of my videos early in the morning, all family sleeping... then "YEAAAAAHHH..." he jumped scared and woke up everyone in his house hahahaa... i never imagined this could happen... but yeah, make sure you turn down a bit just for the first 5 seconds (it's a branding thing) then back to normal haha Anyway I hope you liked to watch this super cool solar electric racing car... they're making a completely new car for for the solar race in October... that means more videos showing some super cool things... ohh yeahhh =] Anything in particular you want to see in my channel?

hahaha same here... first time I saw this all-carbon solar car I was like $$$ then I saw their super high-efficiency electronics, each controller costs $6000 (they have two), these custom handmade hub motors, just the stator costs $6000 (they also have two and melted a few testing)... they said that the approximate cost just for this particular car was $500k... not including all the previous 3 or 4 cars and the super new one they're making for the 2017 race in October... lots of really big companies and government sponsoring these super clever young engineers. I wish I could be involved in a project like that when I studied electronics back in 1999... haha AWESOME!!!! =]

Yeeeaahhh.. 150v battery pack when fully charged hahaaa... this whole solar car that weighs 325kg but with amazing aerodynamics can cruise at 50kmh using a lot less energy than I need to cruise at 50kmh on my electric bike.. hahaha.. This solar electric car is an amazing piece of engineering... you will love to see all the little things I showed and mentioned on this video... totally worth spending some time watching... Guess what... they're making a completely new car for the 2017 race and I think I may come over and help them with the battery design and building... super fun time ahead ohh yeaahhh... =]

+BecomingfreeCOUK agree 100%.... automakers are just too lazy think outside the box and try anything different... they struggle to make electric cars which is a lot simpler than petrol... adding solar panels to the vehicle design their brain would explode haha... Sunswift is building the most AMAZING new solar car... it's not announced to the public yet but I can say that their new car takes things to a whole new level. Tesla showed the world that electric is practical, Sunswift's new car will open people's eyes and the media for practical solar cars.... ohh yeaahhh

I drive a number of zero point vehicles and have been driving then day and night for years. One of them has a top end speed over over 60kpa around town. If I had the funding to throw at it i would kick your backsides. In many ways I already have.

My team and I were participating in the UNSW aunsprint 2017 in the 100 metre race. We start the race and a car wins by a mile and it was the finals. My team and I are cheering and we get awarded second place. SECOND GOD DAMN PLACE! We got second because the other teams solar car actually looked like a car. WHAT IS THIS BS!

+Mihalis Dovellos ohhhh noooo... you guys smashed everyone and ended up in second "just because the other car looked more like a car"?!?! Ohhh it must be frustrating.. I know the big solar race Sunswift runs there are some similar rules, shape, size, min weight, rider sitting position etc. There are pros and cons by limiting the design so much, yes I understand that they're trying to keep things very competitive and set a standard blablabla but personally I love to see unusual, maybe bizarre but innovative ideas. Sunswift's newest car for the 2017 competition is looking AWESOME... reeeeeeeally cool, high-tech and so beautiful =]
