I was a crane operator on N California for 40 years and removed hundreds of trees and never had a crew as skilled as you guys! You don't know how many times I've had limbs flip over or break because of improper rigging. I used to get a sick feeling in my stomach when I was dispatched to a tree job because of the crews I had to work with alot of them didn't speak English. Well done gentlemen if I worked with a crew like yours I'd have a lot less Grey hair!

Its easy to get distracted by the quality workmanship or the videography, but as a business owner, I applaud you for how well oiled your operation functions. The back end stuff is what gets overlooked on KZfaq, but its the toughest part of the business. Bookkeeping, scheduling subcontractors, moving trucks around, dumping, keeping your guys in line, making sure everything has fuel, doing the estimates, back and forth with the customers, on and on... just the logistics of it all. You guys are extremely efficient, everyone knows their role, and you get jobs knocked out quick and on to the next. Safety, productivity, and happy employees / customers is all you can ask for man. God bless! Keep dominating 2023.

Craning tree business is a learning experience every day to say the least. Nice work! Great guessing on your weights. I used to do it operating a 25 ton Manitex, and 50 ton Grove. Another great job on huge tree. You did a great job talking about how slings are Attached and how you broke the tree down intological parts to sling it properly with a separate climber. It isn't always about the cutting.

Great job, very efficient. You mentioned purchasing your own stick crane. Massive investment that could limit yourself as per what you said on that second job (willow tree). A bigger crane may be needed and that being said. How big of a crane do you buy given that every job is diferent. Not to mention the maintenance, insurance and another operator on the payroll that you have to keep busy. I'm retired now (sort of) and used to operate a business called You Rent I Run. I would consult a client for a fee on the job, it was usually a GC, and let them know what I needed and how long it would take. I also suggested rental agencies and left him to gather the locates. Most jobs were in the back but if out front I would pick up the locates as by law. My only overhead was my 1/2 ton pickup. So one day I might have been demolishing a house and the next digging footings, then backfilling but the GC would usually take care of that. Anyway not trying to tell you what to do, just offering an old mans wisdom by experience. Maintenance costs on one of those big boy cranes wouldn't be cheap, not to mention cutting into your flying time.

First video of yours I've seen. Every time I brag on myself, or someone else brags on me, before the job is done, something goes wrong. I never would have guessed those limbs weighed that much. Despite framing some of the biggest custom homes in the Atlanta area spanning many years I never got used to the heights. Watching you dangling from the crane and in the top if that tree my a$$hole was puckerd so tight you couldn't have gotten a needle up it with a jackhammer. You have one hell of a pair my friend! Stay safe.
@Overkill14
@Overkill14 4 ай бұрын
As an experienced rigger…once you get your slings set and you’re confident the hook is hanging over center tell the operator “cable up, you’re gonna start to take some tension, hold your radius”. This lets him know not to wait for your command to boom up to account for deflection and allows him to do it on his own

Great vid Reon. Now I understand your flying machine. Question…what kind of cut wedges do you prefer?
@WildAcresFarms
@WildAcresFarms Жыл бұрын
If he’s like me, the face cut he uses in the tree mostly depends on ergonomics. I’ll back bar a humboldt in with a top handle if that’s what is safest and most comfortable, or cut a conventional with a large saw if I have big wood & unbstructed access. Looking forward to Reon’s answer if he sees this.
@neild7971

If you have to control the wedges themselves, conventional with the angle cut second so the piece doesn’t ride the chain out and smash something below.

I really enjoy your work, but I have a question for you, when you get to the very last cut on a massive tree like this, could you not leave enough for it to be crafted into a bench for sitting on or a table or even crafted into an animal such as a bear or a bird. I’m just really interested in your work, I think it’s great. Best wishes from Glasgow, Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿👍
