It's amazing there's things on earth that still exist and haven't been touched for so long. Ship wrecks are time capsules.

PSA: The video of the divers around a ship is of a different shipwreck. It's not possible for divers to dive to that depth, plus there is also the fact that in the video they say that they used remotely operated vehicles to explore the shipwreck. The photo they showed without the divers is most likely the real one. Putting that video there most likely was to draw attention to the nature of the work they're doing in regards to many shipwrecks which they do dive to. While I haven't confirmed this, I do have a certification as an Advanced Open Water Scuba Diver. I don't think this degrades the discovery, I just think it would have been smart for these news agencies to mention that fact so they don't get accused of spreading fake news.

It is the oldest intact shipwreck YET discovered......others await their discovery......as technology marches on and man learns to use it to explore (not exploit) man will locate and be able to study other wrecks much older than the one shown here......!

So the deepest scuba dive was 1,066 feet. Yet this was 2km deep and there's video of people scuba diving at that depth. I don't understand.

Most of the shipwrecks that we have found around Vancouver island and in the Juan DeFuca straight are no where near that old or in that condition. When we were testing the very first ROV off of Victoria BC in the early 80s we found the remains of 2 old steam ships that no one knew that they were there. I would give damn near anything to be exploring in the Black Sea today. I wonder if any of those Research Vessels are hiring Marine Engineers

Imagine if we could be able to clone the trees the wood of that ship was made from. Somehow I feel like the wood might be damaged when they touch normal oxygenated air again.

The world record scuba dive depth is 332.35 meters, there is no scuba diving at 2000 meters. It's annoying when they use different footage for videos.

How can the archaeologists be scuba diving at that depth?

There has been a misunderstanding by certain people reporting this . This wrack was found at 23 m , or 75 feet . But it is know there are wrecks much deeper up to 2000 meters

No wonder the Black Sea keeps the hidden secrets of the European Civilizations. All countries around this sea are pure living history - the blue eye started from there, the oldest modern human remains have been found in Romania, the oldest European city Plodviv is in Bulgaria, then came the Greeks, the Romans, the Ottomans and so on. "This depiction is almost identical to what was discovered beneath the waves." Maybe I'm missing something, but the vase ship and the sunken ship do not look like the same shape to me. The vase ship has more vertical ends, and the sunken vessel is more flat/horizontal at the ends, not to mention the sunken ship is much longer and has more bulk on the one end.

great story. I just couldn't help thinking the story was being undersold when it kept being referred to as centuries old when it was actually millennia old. that ship is as ancient to Jesus as Christopher Columbus is to us. considering the perfect conditions necessary for a ship that old to remain like that, it may be a long, long time before we find another like this that's even in the same ballpark.

Remarkable news, but why can't they specially treat each wooden member and reconstruct the entire ship in a museum? Why do they have to leave it where no one can really see it? I can see leaving some wrecks for future technologies to reconstruct, but use one for present times. I think there are many more intact shipwrecks in the Black Sea as exploration is so limited due to various governments. Does anyone know why they can't reconstruct the ship in a museum? I bet that they could get a return on admissions to see it. Have it tour major cities of the world.

2,000 meters is 2 kilometers. Divers cannot go that deep. That's like a mile and a quarter down. That's deeper than the wreck of the Japanese battleship Yamato in the East China Sea or the Musashi in the Sibuyan Sea. Military attack submarines can't even dive that deep. The record for the deepest dive with scuba gear is 332 meters, set in 2014. At that depth, the pressure being exerted on the human body is 485 pounds per square inch or 33 bar. It took the diver fourteen hours to ascend, due to decompression. Why are we showing divers over a wreck that is supposed to be 2 kilometers down?

Need to correct 2000m. The Dead Sea is only 304 m deep and the Greek ship is found only 1/3 of the way down.

This is not the oldest shipwreck. There are a couple from the Late Bronze Age in the Mediterranean; Ulu Burun comes to mind (c. 1350-1300 BC).
