Recurve women's individual gold medal match between Casey Kaufhold of USA and Jang Minhee of Korea at the 2021 Hyundai World Archery Championships in Yankton, USA. Recurve archers shoot at a target 70 metres away, 122cm in diameter and the central 10-ring measures just 12.2 centimetres in diameter (about the size of a DVD).

I thought that in a match commentators should cover both sides, why is it that the commentators are all focused on Casey. I mean atleast be fair in giving comments. Whenever Casey gets 8 or 9 they always say ohh she is only 17..there was sun in her eyes..etc.

I know!!! When An San vs Casey, when San get a bad arrow, they were like "uncharacteristic from... " or something like 'Door wild open for Casey' or "the 17 year old just beat the Olympic Champion"??? When it's Jang Minhee in final, a 10 from Casey would get a lot of comments from them, while just 1-2 sentences only when it's Jang get the 10???? Don't get me wrong, Casey truly is a talented girl, 17 and alrealy a medalist in World Championship, since 15 years old already have a lot of medals. But I just wish that they were unbiased, I mean Korean Jang and An were both really young as well as talented too and still years over years, they kept biased over someone who is non-korea in Archery>

Just an opinion here… but i think it comes down to people loving an underdog. No matter how amazing Casey is, the Korean women have been such a dominant force in international archery competition, for so long, anyone who challenges them will have biased coverage in their favor.

I can tell by looking at her face that this is just like usual training days. For Korean competitors, international competition seems less intense than national competition in their country.

I just can't see how spending 10 minutes firing arrows is worthy pf a gold medal, I don't mean they aren't insanely skilled but surely first to 25 or something but six?

1) They will have shot ~3 matches previously to get to the gold final. 2) Archery was at risk of being dropped from the Olympics if they didn’t make it more spectator/media appealing. Before the set system matches were 12 - 15 arrows (compound now 15 arrow matches).

How many seconds to win a 100 metres run or a 100 metres swim??? Javelin... shot-putt....the list is endless whereby gold medals are won with all but no effort on the day, so picking on a sport whose final takes 10-15 minutes (excluding all the qualifying matches) is a little odd. If there were two qualifying rounds, then a semi and then the final, Usain Bolt would have run for a tad under 40 seconds yet is idolised the world over. There's no skill in running faster than anyone else, but regularly putting an arrow into a three inch circle thats 70 METRES away is ridiculously skillful. Credit where its due...
