I grew up on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. I left after high school to attend college and ultimately moved to Colorado. After I retired I went back for an extended visit last Summer. The Shore is still the shore but I saw the changes, erosion, ghost forests, a field left fallow due to rising water. I also saw positive change with African Americans attending what used to be a White only church. I applaud the efforts of the people working to adapt to the changes and have hope for the future. Thank you for making this film.

This documentary was so well done! It’s a must see video for everyone living on the eastern shore! I want to volunteer to help save our marshes the protectors of the land. Thank you for further educating me about this dire situation.

I am almost 35 and live in FL, but am originally from the Philly burbs and grew up with a summer home in Wachapreague…so, this area will always be very dear to me. The unique accents, in particular, will always be very nostalgic for me. You guys should also watch the new Peter Santenello vid on the same area…it’s very good. 👍

Wachapreague was originally called Powellton, named after my family.

@@SIC-SEMPER-TYRANNIS No way! Our house was 13 Powellton Ave! My family owned it from like 91-98…and my relatives house was on Brooklyn Ave across from the fairground…either 14, 16, or 18 Brooklyn…one of those. Our last name is Earl. We even knew the family who lived on the big pink house on Powellton & Brooklyn…as well as Miss Margaret at the general store, Ms Christine across from us on Powellton, and Captain Jeff next door!

@@BrandonEarl2828 , some may be relatives, not sure about the 911 addresses, I just know the neighborhood. My aunt and uncle eat at Island house nearly every day, and have their own table in the back corner for the family, unfortunately all houses in town that go on the market now get bought up by new Yorkers and investment developers. They've ruined the shore. Developers just bought the Marina that has become sludged in with sediment. There are no full time party boats anymore taking fisherman.

This documentary is very enlightening and is disheartening. I know very little about the coast having only visited less than a dozen times in my 53 years but it's always been an amazing experience for me. To see those decent hardworking folk, families, and elderly losing their homes and livelihoods is heartbreaking! The effects of climate change are being felt literally everywhere and it's affecting agricultural farming in our region. Here in upstate NY our winters aren't the same as when I was a kid. They're warmer with much less snow, or we'll get very late season snowstorms. Spring seems to be disappearing and summers have been much hotter. Worldwide climate change initiatives needed to happen decades ago!

I learned a lot about an area that I am not familiar with. I hope that the small farmers will benefit by improvements as well as the larger ones. I am concerned about the developing demographics. It's not only a local situation. Thank you for such a fine production. Keep it up.

I understand that this is happening, but how does one place have sea level rise over another? When sea level is level, are you leaving out the land subsidence? If so, why?

Instead of sending money to other countries the feds need to invest in these areas. Imagine how 300 billion dollars would benefit these beautiful areas that are vital to our ecosystems.

The Eastern Shore will never have the financial influence to avoid what we have seen coming since the 70's. But, folks then offered prayers of denial instead of infrastructure. The world is way pass prevention of climate change. Trillions of dollars will not allow the Eastern Shore to continue into another 150 years. The chicken factories will close in the next 20 years because of population lose. Population loss caused by jobs/housing elsewhere. Why would you go into a mortgage @ 275,000$ for a home that the potable water stinks and the commodes occasionally burps. The low labor cost that brought them here in the late 60's is challenged today by everywhere else. Exmore, 1952.

Sea Levels arent rising. The tides hit the dock poles in Quinby the same places they have in my 50 years. Erosion is the problem, from poor agricultural and residential development. That and farm chemical contamination, making this one of the highest cancer rate areas in the nation.

Stopped at 2:12. You show land on the SEA SHORE inundated with water. I sympathize for the people and their need to change but dang, things change and always will. Those affected need to change too. End of story.
