If the Chinese girls hit the routines the only entertaining thing would be “who gets the bronze? Start competition!!!!” Literally nobody can come even close to the Chinese girls in difficulty and execution.

Well last year it was supposed to be Qiu Qiyuan and ou Yushan in the final and then instead it was Zhou Yaqin and Zhang Qingying. Here we see today that Qiu Qiyuan missed and Zhang Qingying got a score beatable by Simone and maybe Suni. Only Simone and Zhou Yaqin are consistent so I’d say they are still the favorites for gold/silver, not Qiu

@@Plaspos The American girls aren’t consistent either. Maybe Shi is, the rest aren’t. And Shi still can’t catch the Chinese girls if they hit their routines.

Chinese gymnasts learn technique first, then they learn the actual skills. That’s why everything on beam looks so deliciously technically perfect. Lines, toes, shapes, everything

From a MAG judge here: This is stunning….only one of the leaps she could have a slightly better extension and of course she could go without the landing deduction, but I could not falter her in anything else. This is an Olympic routine for a medal… Well done, Yaqin.

Maybe I'm alone in my opinion, but I miss the days of tumbling and acrobatics on the beam. The focus of today's beam routines is jumps in combinations, although extremely difficult to execute, the dynamics and wow factor have greatly diminished.

I don’t. Excessive tumbling turns beam into a somersault competition. This is a more balanced approach where finesse , precision and balance are required to excel.

Stunning. That side somersault to the connection jumps was absolutely divine. Issue with the ring leap and dismount. Chinese are always so good on beam, but can she hit when it counts?

It's great to see that since Liang Chow went to China to coach/train their WAG team, we're starting to see actual women's physiques instead of the 12-13 year old's passed off as 16 and I can see a difference in strength, fluidity and grace. They are still small, but they've at least reached womanhood and exude a new elegance. Now they will have to translate that to the vault where power and strength are the basis and to floor where dance and power are combined. Good on Zhou Yaqin for that gorgeous beam routine! Can't wait for the beam final in Paris.

Very precise and clean She looks really young because if she is shes going to be a scary competitor. As you you can see her dismount is not as difficult but she clearly can make up for it in other areas of her routine. Her leaps were jaw dropping and flexibility is amazingly good

It’s interesting what people don’t clap for…the part where she did a split in the air and her back leg almost touched her head was incredibly difficult yet the crowd hardly gave her any praise…same with the twists on her tippy toes.

Maybe sometimes they give the connection when they shouldn’t, but China seems to have learned the lesson in Tokyo and the gymnasts have worked on their connections it looks. This routine would have gotten a 9.2+ E score in the Russian nationals where they indeed overscore…
