The shell doesn't need to go through the main armor for it to be a critical hit, a critical hit only happens when you damage a module. Tracks, Gun, View ports, ext all count as modules.

Martin Hjerpe they changed the mechanics in patch 9.17 so I think thats why they made this video.

No these have been the standard mechanics for years. They're hopefully going to be reworking it so there effectively won't be a 2 caliber, and 3 caliber rule.

@World of Tanks North America, does the upload of this video also mean that the planned, but scrapped penetration changes for 9.17 are entirely off the table now? Because this seems to be more of a video to show a player how the current penetration mechanics work, so you dont really have to put up with the issues occuring in the test phase of the new mechanics..

I detected a lie around the 9:42; they claimed that HE shells don't ricochet, but I've seen them ricochet off enemy tanks. I've also lost games because of a few of those. If that isn't suppose to be in the game then please fix it WG.

There is a tip on Loading screen on maps. Ramming damage is calculated by Weight, Speed.

Omniscient Sherman I was just thinking of the pen. of an HESH shell: Lets say in Real Life: we have a HESH shell which can pen. 120mm, this gets fired at an IS-3 which at the front has 110mm (effectivly about 200mm) of armour (we're not hitting the track). So because HESH acts like a Plstic Explosive it forms it's filler to the shape of the armour and than pens. So basicly angling (as long as it's not a too steep angle) doesn't matter. This HESH shell penetrates anything that has an armour value below 120.1 mm Is this machanic in WoT?

In WoT, HESH works just like HE, only with more penetration. Which is stupid because this is totally not what HESH does, but that's WoT. Dumbing down everything so kids can understand.

People are dumb if they shoot your turret. It's orange on the armor scale and that scale you normally see on teir 8s and higher.

to calculate armor thickness it's the "thickness / cos the angle in degrees". eg: 100mm / cos 60deg = 200mm of effective thickness.

The fire chance is for any impact to the engine, whether it gets damaged ("yellow") or destroyed ("red") or not. So the post-battle results screen wouldn't show anything, because you never damaged the engine enough for it to stop working at full power.

In terms of damage, yes; in terms of pen, no. (And a JPE100 WILL bounce at the more inopportune times.. like bouncing the rear of a T69's turret at 100m with AP. Yes, been there, done that.)

+eopest or bouncing on a light tank with JPE100 doing no dmg or even tracking the tank, seems to happen to me way to much in that tank.

No they don't. The shell has weight and therefore inertia. The roof of a car doesn't have the strength to resist the inertia of the shell and it will tear. Think of it like this, flatten a piece of tinfoil over the top of a bucket and tie it tight then press on it with your hand it will tear. You hand has no penetration value at all, 0mm. but the force you are applying, is so strong the tinfoil cannot hold together.
