There is a technique with the Mammoth Bar where you pull the slack out first, then break the floor. It is like a double pull.
@ILoveMoms4452 ай бұрын
Yeah and im pretty sure John haack is infamous for not doing slack pulls so no surprise he didn't get a huge benefit from using this bar
@joecowan37192 ай бұрын
@@ILoveMoms445 Yeah, his technique is not quite a grip and rip, but it is pretty close, sets feet and pulls aggressively in one motion. IF he wanted to push his Mammoth Bar 1RM he could definitely change his technique and pull close to 1k.
@JuliusCaesar1032 ай бұрын
A couple of things here. Starting from a higher position means that probably you can't use the stretch reflex like usually. Different starting position that John isn't used to. He maybe wasn't peaked for this lift like he would for a powerlifting meet.

It’s a totally different lifting technique unique on this bar. If you explode from the start you hit the point of resistance later and it’s like hitting a wall in the lift. He just needs to get used to being smooth through the lift on this type of bar. He’s got the strength. A few practices and he’ll be crushing it
@finestjellybeansrawlol94862 ай бұрын
From the video he basically just turned up to do it for fun. It's sort of silly comparing it to a peaked competition lift.

He's just not used to it and has a quick start. He essentially didn't pull the slack out of a bar with a whole lot of slack and thus misgrooved the attempt.

That's misconception with the mammoth bar; talk to any pro strongman that's done it in comp and they'll tell you it's a more difficult deadlift compared to a standard bar. The record for the mammoth bar is less than the standard deadlidt record for a reason

The strongman record with the normal deadlift bar is higher because that record is set using a deadlift suit and figure eight straps, while the only event that uses the long whippy elephant bar (the Arnold) has the competitors deadlift raw (no suit) with normal straps. A whippy bar can be either easier or harder than a normal bar in the conventional deadlift for different people, but it is nearly totally dependent on individual pulling style and weaknesses. For example, Thor pulls more with an elephant bar versus his normal total (he even pulled 480kg in training with no suit and normal straps), while Larry Wheels is better with a normal deadlift bar.

I believe that the bar is too long. The weight distribution at that length increases the centrifugal weight ratio from balance to not in balance. Also supination of the left arm make it dangerous to do so, also the angle of pronation upon lifting changes the muscle structures being used. The whole idea is not thought out. In fact, a shorter bar wins the day. Just my opinion 😉👍

For sumo noodle bars pretty much always are easier, but for conventional lifters it depends. Aggressive pullers from the floor usually suck with a whippy bar but smoother pullers with good lockout strength often can lift a bit higher numbers with it.
