I take my Honda Ridgeline to Countersteer in Canton GA to put the AEM intake to the test on the Dyno jet. I am comparing the drop in AEM Air filter vs the Performance AEM intake.
Max HP produced at 80MPH during these tests and running 87 octane fuel.
The OEM Airbox HP numbers is for AEM drop in filter which as stated by Dylan is usually more efficient and so the Numbers on the OEM box are more likely better than what it could have been if it were just a stock drop in Honda Filter.

Cool, happy you did this, it answers some questions, but my takeaway is different. For 95% of driving conditions it doesn't seem to matter and probably not worth the cost/effort for the few times you are over 5500 RPMs. But I love that you are tinkering around with the Ridgeline and reporting back, keep it up!

Yeah the power band didn’t see much of an improvement but remember I’m using a drop in AEM filter and not the OEM Honda filter in my stock intake. That can easily skew the numbers in favor of the AEM another 2-3%. However still seeing a 28hp increase is no little thing.

Glad that you’ve taken the time and expense to run this Dyno test comparison 👍. I have the AEM on my 2WD 2017 RTL-T. My takeaway after your report is that on the lower, under 4K rpm range, there’s no hp difference between OEM and AEM and unfortunately the lower rpm range is what we operate most of the time. On the higher rpm range, impressive... Having said that, I’d love for you to test this at the drag-strip where you MAY(?)🤔 see the advantage of the AEM vs OEM because of the higher rpms. By the way, I’ve heat-wrapped the metal intake tube of the AEM to keep the engine heat from heating the intake air. Wish we could post pictures to show n’ tell. Thanks again for all the good content on our Gen2s

I have 2014 Ridgeline touring and I am gonna put this AEM on it it says it does not fit mine but I know intakes I have made them and it will work! I am also doin my exhaust when I do this and trying to find a super charger to boost it a bit nothing crazy and the drive by wire latency has got to fuckin go! Honda vehicles make shit tons of power once you get a few bolt ons that work good with each other! You can’t just put an intake and expect huge gains! It works better once you start pairing it with other tuning ideas.

Great video! It's seldom you find this level of attention to details when peolple share dyno videos. Usually it's just an "after" video, so there is no comparison to be made. Here it's before and after on the same day (same weather conditions) and without removing the car from the dyno. Very good job! I drive a Pilot with the same AEM filter, and I plan to increase the pipe length to reach colder air down where the stock intake inlet is located. This should prevent any heat soak but still have the benefits of an open high flow air filter. In the Pilot community, there are almot no one who are interested in tuning the engine or improving the handling in any way. It's just roof racks, window visors and running boards... Nice to have fund someone who is interested in improving these engins! I'm on the look out for a way to tune the ECU, so that fule, ignition and VTEC point can be adjusted. I'm also interested in high flow cats and some minor exhaust tuning. But I would not like the car to sound like shit during normal driving conditions, so I hope someone can try out some stuff and post viseos, so I donät have to take all chanses myself ;).

I would be interested in seeing a dyno pull with the AEM intake and Magnaflow exhaust. If the two together give reasonable increase in hp and torque at RPM's where most of us drive, I would be very interested. Upper end hp is nice for the few times you go up into that range to put a smile on your face, but it is torque that gets your truck moving from a standstill.

Great video! I have the AFE Takeda installed on my 2019 Sport AWD. I have improved throttle response below 4500rpm. Mine is not as aggressive when VTEC kicks in. I think the AFE is probably more linear throughout the rpm range vs the AEM. This could be due to the sealed box design. One thing is for certain... The aftermarket is not dyno testing their parts. They are just making educated guesses on potential power output. As your graphs prove. Very disappointing.

Yeah. That was a total BS graph. I hope to have a video done with the takeda intake. I’m really curious if it’s any good. Have to do it on my vehicle now for accurate comparison because if other people start making videos not all engines are the same and it can skew data but I’m sure as a general rule of thumb it will at least show either positive or negative gains which would be beneficial.

@YuriyMotso
@YuriyMotso 3 жыл бұрын
We did 10 pulls in total once Dylan locked in and figured out how to get the truck to cooperate. The graphs as always will differ because of temperature, air flow etc... however the AEM runs were usually better and out performed the OEM runs for most of the results. On all peak power band over 5k and most lower power band from 3,700-5k. So I think it’s fair to say it will stay around for the most part. You will have fluctuations which I believe was like averaging from 249-255.99 on the AEM. So to expect always 28hp but thy is the highest reading we got so it’s a real accurate reading of what can be achieved however may not be consistent depending on climate and operating temps.

I think the problem is heatsoak when the hood is closed and driving around town (actual driving conditons) The hot cats really make the engine bay toasty when the hood is closed. On the dyno, you have fans blowing hard with the hood open, so you can 100% true cool air. Nonetheless, that is a big increase in power. Can you test the takeda intake?
@YuriyMotso

I am considering doing another video in the future with it closed and will from here on out do tests with engine bay close and open. I just let the professionals do what they do every day when I was there. Since a lot of people have been bringing up this question I think its safe to say that I need to do a test to match the viewers requirements/needs. I do want to do a takeda test. Currently trying to see how I will be able to get that done as it does cost quite a bit of money to do these tests. KZfaq does not pay at the moment so others have recommended I start a Go fund me for certain projects which I think I may venture into and continue using my truck as the ginny pig for all these tests.

Are you referring to the drop in AEM Filter that goes into the OEM Air box? if so that is what is being tested in this video. I am not using a stock OEM Filter in my OEM air box as the first thing I always do is replace it with an AEM filter so I don't have to buy anymore. 2-3 filter changes and its paid for itself and good thing is you can clean it as often as you want so you can have best air flow all the time. other traditional single use filters People tend to hold on to them longer hurting their fuel economy and HP as they don't want to spend the money on a new filter so they drag it out usually way past the change date from what I know. I could be wrong though. Does that answer your question or was I way off?

problem is actually having the truck behave because its an automatic without the shifters. Yuriy what do you contribute to the difference in performance between the AEM Performance CAI dyno in this video vs dyno’d AEM Performance CAI in the later video when you tested against the other air filters? To clarify, the later dyno video you posted never showed AEM Performance CAI had significant hp gains anywhere in the rpm band. In this video you are showing gains of up to 20 hp over 5500 rpm. Scratching my head as to the differences.
@YuriyMotso
@YuriyMotso 3 жыл бұрын
The main difference is the temperature between the two takes and we did have the hoods open as requested by the community. I don't think there was any operator error. We ran the Dyno maybe 30 times before we were confident to start taking readings. Countersteer is a very highly reputable tuning shop in Georgia. Only one of 2 locations that have capabilities to do AWD vehicles. Dylan, (The Owner) has been doing this for over 12 years and is quite professional in my experiences with other shops. Here is what I think is what actually happened why we saw a higher number. We got Lucky. What I mean by that is as long as a company could obtain a HP gain of "X" they can legally claim that you could have gains up to "X". Well we got a lot of runs in and the best one though it was not easily replicable was 20+ HP. I think this is that fine line of what you can really gain vs what is reality. Reality I think are the second set of Dyno numbers. The best case scenario is the 20+ Hp. At least this is what I believe and we have been able to produce and so I agree with AEM that yes these numbers are realistic and can be obtained under optimal conditions. Dylan says that typically all AEM products when he tests them produce power. Its very rare that they don't produce more power. I know it looks very conflicting because the numbers are not similar however I had to redo the video due to the high demand for an open hood Dyno and then I added the other two OEM and AFE air filters to round out the competition. I would go based off the second Dynos readings if I had to say which one I think is more accurate. its Dylans second time with the truck and had close to 60 pulls under his belt with this truck now so he's also gotten better are testing my vehicle out. Now again can't say this is 100% accurate but I am hoping it gives people a general idea of what you can expect. No one is doing these tests so I am learning and experimenting as I go and every time I hope to be getting better and consistent with my findings. Thank you for watching the videos and for your questions as they help me think about how to make the Channel better for viewers like you.

I appreciate your insight and your effort. Keep it up. I’m learning a lot along side you.
