My dad ACCIDENTALLY did that to me on my birthday. We were making chili, and I can't handle heat AT. ALL. I make chili with only flavor, no kick. My dad forgot, and put this chili spice stuff in that he got as a gift. He let it simmer, didn't taste anything. Added more in, nothing. Added the entire thing in, still no kick. He kept adding more and more different things to get a mild kick but he wasn't noticing anything. (Please keep in mind he is used to Thai food, where the REGULAR "light kick" is instant death for Americans. He finally grabs his Thai chili's, chops them up, and puts them in. I had no idea about ANY of this as I was doing my homework while the chili was simmering. His friends and their daughter came over, we went to eat (chili burgers and chili hot dogs), and I barely even bit into one, didn't even bite full way through and I was screaming, going for ice cubes, cold milk, ice water, the works. My dad felt so horrible because he was seasoning it to what HE considers a "light kick", totally forgetting I can't handle ANY kick. I laugh about it now, but at the time, I was NOT having a good time.
