When I was a boy, there were more outlaws and they were scruffier. They professed to be robbing us in order to buy underwear. This was considered highly sophisticated humor at the time.

Further, there was a mannequin situated in the outhouse giving the impression that the facilities were in use. This was also considered urbane and witty by my standards.
