I have one with my McKinley DK at 2.5w or so. 25w swings to 100w. If people are talkers the amp will get warm pretty quick. Just put a computer fan and all will be good. Great little, reasonably, priced amps!!👍🏼

I like these little amps. I just got a 203. I tested it with an old 23 ch midland base (keying 3 watts) and i'm getting about 180 pep out of the 203 so my meter is dead nuts on with your Bird!

Yeah the manufacturer on there site says a 1/2 a watt. up to 10 watt.. but the lower I'm sure would be better I'm going to put 3 1/2 in then I'll find out what I get thanks for the great video bud.

I appreciate this video. I just got a KL200P and plan to use it with my Stryker 955 v-2. I set my dead key (AML) to 2 watts. Swing looks to be 25 watts on my Dosy. Hope that's right.

I run my KL-203 with a 3/4 watt dead key and let it swing up to 170-180 watts. Any more dead key and it will heat up if you like talking on your radio.

I was running a phillipines grant into one of these and ran it for about a month,and the mosfets caught fire. 2 watts going in and 20 swinging

Would not recomment a uniden grant, or cobra 148gtl. They put out a high amount of "average" power that will not show up on a dosy meter or other cheaper meters. The end result is overdriving your amp without ever realizing it. A grant or 148 will do over 10 watts average even if the peak power is showing low. The radio in this video was doing 5 watts average.

Rooster, can you kindly make video comparison of a cheap Workman SWR/Power meter which what I have cos that's only what I can afford & what's available here in Philippines, with the Bird meter you're using so that I could have a clear idea where I'm at when I trim down my 29ltd classic by the time I get the chance to have a kl203. Like you said, you won't see the true output of a radio with cheap meters. I really would appreciate some help with your know how. Thanks again and 73's.

My galaxy 959 does 32w pep and has a 2w dead key turned all the way down. Should I get about the same pep power you got here or will mine do a bit more since its doing 32w pep barefoot?? It's had a basic peak and tune. The power you got here is more than enough for me I am only curious 👍 Sorry for dumb questions. Never had anything but barefoot radios. I like this 203 because it's small and simple.

So basically 2-4 watts am power and swing to 17 watts would be ok with this amp.. and ssb band with 17 watts swing could work also..OR SHOULD I go in my radio and make both my am and ssb both peak at only 12 watts and be perfectly safe.?

would this be safe not to blow it up if it was hooked up with a president bill radio?I'm not sure exactly what that radio puts out as a stock radio out of the box from factory? is it putting out too much as stock radio for this little amp I figured maybe with the little small model cb. is that safe ?

Hi. I have a question. On the cobra 29? If I have a wattage meter. Can I just turn the rf gain down to reduce watts to 2 if I hook up a Rm-200. And make sure SWR is below 1.5. Anything else?

Question, my Stryker I don't think needs a helper, but in case I wanted to, would I need to get it turned down to match the box? I also have a Road King that was peaked and turned and maybe hook it to my little friend? Closest radio shop to me from Athens Alabama is 100 miles so any help would be kind.

Just got one of these, and it's 'hanging up' especially on AM mode? Defective? Only putting 2W in with a brand new untouched McKinley. SWR is nominal at 1.1-1.4 ch. 1-40, readings are from a Dosy TFB 3001...can't speak for it's accuracy except it's dead-nuts on with another Rat Shack meter. Someone said these RM's 'wear-in' after a while, but I'm not so sure about that...?

@@randomprecisionmotors3130 Ebay link doesn't work because I sold out of them. No such thing as "wearing in". If you're running a 3ft jumper try a 6ft and see what happens.

@@Rooster_Radio That was it, I was using a 3 footer, and put the only 6 foot jumper I had on there, and it seemed to fix it, and power-out is up too! 2W in, 120W out by my meter! Thank you for your advice, you are officially my new hero!

yes if youre talking about the 75-822, it works good Idk about that antenna haven't used one but I ran the 75-822 on LO power output it put out 1 and a 1/2 W on LO and the KL203P amp out to a solarcon A99 base antenna it worked well
