Vince, I actually have both. I'm not a contractor, but just a DIY'er who loves tools. Like I commented in another one of your videos from 4 years ago about the Skilsaw 77, I've always like that worm drive saw ever since I've seen Tommy Silva on This Old House and Norm Abram use those saws. That's why I bought the vintage 77 from that pawn shop. They are heirloom quality tools that will last multiple lifetimes when taken care of. I started buying Milwaukee when I saw a video about how much torque the 3/8" impact had. I didn't want to have to rely on my air gun all the time or drag the air hose out every time I had to take the lugnuts off my vehicles. Then I bought the M18 Milwaukee Worm Drive saw based on your review. It is a beast. Thanks for your videos.

Vince, I love my 7.25 and 8.5 Skil worm drive saws. They are both from the 50's-60's and running like champs. I might switch out the steel plates for magnesium, but that would entail me drilling out the front pin. Anyway. I'm interested in the Milwaukee MX Fuel Carry on portable supply. It would allow me to run the old saws. I have two questions. 1. How much would be lost power wise, with running a tool like that with a 25 foot extension cord? 2. I use a DeWalt 24000 tile saw on my jobs and was wondering if the Milwaukee power supply could run that tool all day. Any feedback would be great. Thanks

Just picked up the $39.99 13 amp SKIL SAW with 7" blade. It cuts great - clean and straight cuts and the tool looks really nice in black and red, can't believe it was only $39.99! If I need to cut something, I just go to SKIL and don't waste time comparing to other cutting tools. Anything else if I want a forever tool I go Milwaukee or Makita.

Vince and crew - this is a great video. I love the fast test cuts you do as these are more like the real world than the controlled, planned cuts in some videos. I'm new to woodworking and I've been trying to decide if I should buy a table saw or a good circular saw. I do have a small Worx 4.5", but it has its limits. I borrowed a sidewinder circular saw from a friend and so far I'm not impressed with how it does straight rip and crosscut. It just seems off balance. I think this is one of the points you were making about the Skilsaw here. Also, go Iggles!!

I think you nailed the point, if you're already in the M18 platform and not a dedicated framer, Milwaukee. The real skilsaw test would be against its corded brother, particularly how long does each charge last and how long to recharge? How many batteries would it take to get through a day? What is that cost vs a generator and some extensions?

Skilsaw is more powerful. You might need the third battery in the day for my understanding. Nothing in the world is free, gotta get that juice from somewhere. Trick is the fact that they have such a powerful worm saw without a cord period is whats so unprecedented. Personally, im buying into their economy today. Batteries are pricey, but cant argue with these cutting results

I wanna see Skil's "Southpaw" go up against their HD77. Both are left side blade saw, but while the wormdrive has more torque, the Southpaw has significantly more speed (almost 30%) and is much lighter (about 25% lighter). I have a Southpaw. Honestly, that thing is a BEAST through anything. It glides through 2X stock like I'm cutting through 1/2" plywood.

I think a left blade saw is actually easier for right handed people to use in certain applications. In that sense it's nice manufacturers realize that and put them out in the 7 1/4" size. You can get them with the blade either side. Being a lefty it's frustrating I can't get a 6 1/2" right blade. Blade close is easier for shorter cuts. Something light and handy for 2x4. Opposite blade(conventional) for ripping.

I am predominantly left handed, and I can use saws with the blade on the left or right side of the shoe. However, most people don't realize that you can actually see the blade/cut line from both sides of a typical circular saw. They are made that way.

@@jmackinjersey1 I'm a leftie and can cut either way, but in truth, we can do more right-handed things than right-handers can do left sided. People are generaal pretty ignorant about the mechanics and dynamics of circular saws. It is not about power and balance. It is about stability. Sidewinder saws should have a top handle to push down while cutting. If you do not push down, gyroscopic forces on the motor will turn the blade of track. This is mitigated somewhat in battery powered saws because the motor inertia is relatively small. But it is still an issue. Wormdrives rotate the motor so the gyroscopic forces remain inline with the cut. A carpenter with wormdrive can tell you that when pushing hard from behind the saw always tracks straight. Sidewinder you are asking for kickback when doing that.

The original idea of the blade being on the right side was that it was safer. The blade comes off the arbor spinning in reverse. At that point, if it comes off on the left side. It will stick in your gut and cut you open right in the nuts. I have only had that happen one time and the blade went past my leg but it can happen. left hand blade for left handed people. Right handed for right handed people.

@@AntonioClaudioMichael I understand the branding situation, but it is still the same parent company Chevron LTD, (just like TTI/S B&D), same lack of cordless tools. Yes, they just came out with SawSquach, as their newest addition. Everything new from them is "Worm Drive" and corded. Does the world need a wd table saw? Possibly, if you are constantly cutting hard wood. But the general trades have been doing quite well with what is already on the market. Aluminum and Magnesium housings? Not really all that necessary, especially for the price. Covid aside, I don't see them being able to catch up with the pro or even prosumer market. But they do make a great worm drive saw, don't get me wrong. I just don't see them being as big as the others in the cordless arena. Let them stick to what they know best.

Would you have not been better to set up a fence for them cuts. Would have stopped them twists stopping the saw. Just saying.

That's my only complaint. The tests were so inconsistent its hard to really call it a true comparison. Interesting watch though considering I'm literally just discovering the gold mine that is the skilsaw

Not a expert like you so I'm a little more on the safe side. Isn't holding the hand down bye the blade as you cut a little unsafe not trying to say you haven't been doing what you been doing for along time or you don't know what you're doing. I look at it this way a lot of first time DIY doers come to You Tube to find the best ways to do thing's then they stumble across you're Chanel see you fast cutting timber then go to try it you're way not knowing how to truly handle a saw or hand placement like you do and end up in Hospital. I know one thing I was cringing thinking you might just have slipped up once then Hospital time. They pay people Millions of dollars for the what if Question billions go out to insurance companies and you know they love that so with all that said. I do love you're channel learned a bunch and thank you for that I'm just trying to watch out for those not so handy as you or others might be.

@@davygarcia363 I prefer the blade left design so I can see it and get covered in saw dust. I have the milwaukee 2631-20. However knowing what I know now I would get 1. Makita GSH02Z 2.Dewalt DCS578B 3.Makita XSH01 Makita smooth soft start motors. Dewalt powerhouse. Milwaukee most $ and their circular saws specifically are nice but a step behind other brands

@@mediumgrey8674 Thank you for the feed back . I’ll do my diligence. In the past I’ve always used cord left side. Most of my tools are DEWALT older models. I like Milwaukee tools too. My key focus on most tools I own is the battery, interchange them. On choosing a Circular saw the big factor visibility because I’m left handed. I don’t do a lot of cutting but most of the time I use a straight edge because I don’t trust my right hand on the saw for a straight cut. Again thank you..

Worm drive “style” is not a worm drive. Worm drive gears provide more torque, also worm gears naturally brake. This is only a comparison in looks.

In reality, we all know that these are two Completely Different saws. One has a rear handle. Not really a big deal, except in ergonomics. The other is a true Worm Gear, driven saw that allows a heck of a lot more torque, and is designed for heavy cutting on a repetitious manner. Now, that's not to say that the rear handle saw will not perform adequately on the site. But if you are looking for a shorter work day, or on a large production site, and want to get more done in a day/week/month, then the rear handle, true worm drive saw is going to be the better tool for that job. We all know that Milwaukee has a true, worm drive saw, but it is not cordless at this present moment in time. I am hoping that they will see this Skil, true worm gear driven saw in a cordless version and make one themselves. Or, maybe the feedback they are getting is adequate for now, or they are coming out with one that has a little larger blade.
