Worst Ball Joint I Have Ever Replaced! Supercharged Range Rover Failed MOT on Front Ball Joint

My wifes 2007 Supercharged L322 Range Rover failed its MOT (inspection) on 3 things, one of them was a front ball joint. Shouldn't be that difficult to replace right? Worst ball join I have ever replaced!

Yep, generous application of massage with a BFH(big f'n' hammer)🔨⚒will generally pop front end parts apart. Glad your buddy came by and gave you a hand with it. Thanks Adam!

I have one of those forks in my toolbox, and I say "fork" when I've had to use it. Good to have Don to help you out, that's what friends are for.

A triumph of percussive maintenance! The flanges on that balljoint are going to be loaded primarily in compression, so they don't actually have to be very thick, but at a first glance they don't look up to a Range Rover standard. :-)*

Interesting about the flooding issue on the V8. Was half-thinking of getting an XK8 4.2, so probably good to know!

Ray Rainman had a similar Ball Joint on a Ford 1500 van (similar difficult as yours)

Use your trolley jack to take the weight of the bottom ball joint. You are fighting against the spring.

Made no difference and no we’re not fighting against anything. The air suspension was filled let out and not doing anything. No springs on these cars

Cast parts always snap, I know I have had a lot of them. Buy better, last longer. Plus high mileage cars tend to use a mish mash of spare parts. Next time try bottle jack under tread, is does help in separation.

We tried a jack before and it didn’t help. I had a large puller on it also. It was really stuck in place

Next time don't take the nut all the way off, just in case it pops off and hurts you. You should have used a ball joint puller and used an impact gun. They usually are in there pretty tight.
