As someone who mostly plays fighting games, it's really interesting to me how seriously Elden Ring PvP players take the game (especially with how inconsistent the netcode is). The guy in the video was misinformed, somehow thought he found proof of the combo dropping, and felt confident enough to do a little gotchya clickbait video about it. Meanwhile, the game has 0 tools to actually test and learn PvP mechanics. Even in the video the guy can't tell what's real and what's not because he can't actually test it properly on his own. It blows my mind that a training mode mod does not exist where you can test simple stuff like true combos, poise breakpoints for different attacks, roll catches, etc.

Idk how the sword of night had R2 combos. Heavy attacks are usually slower than normal attacks, but they hit harder depending on the weapon itself. At least from the weapons I’ve used besides katanas as giant crushers are often my Go-to weapons.

The guy could also be holding the r2 a little to long instead of tapping r2, that would also cause it not to combo.

I actually don't think the person was clickbaiting or whatever, he was partly right tbh, the main issue in this argument here is that both parties definition of "true combo" are different, in that person's argument his definition of true combo is something that unaffected by stable latency that caused by p2p connection and the whole netcode of the game, while steel's definition of true combo is that if it works in minimal or low latency situation and technically a true combo then it's a "true combo". I'm not defending that person don't get me wrong but I can see where his argument comes from for that the "TRUE true combo" does exist in the game, those combo works as long as latency is stable no matter how far the distance to both players' network location, for example there's a under appreciated really strong pvp weapon class called curved great sword, that thing is a hardswap beast in more "competitive" duels because there's also a ash of war called storm stomp that gives you 600 hyper armor if you hardswap and land the stomp ur dismounter r2 is guaranteed hit no matter how high the latency is as long as it's still stable. Curved greatsword weapon class also has a unstable "true combo" that has very tight initial frame hit detection to connect the combo similar to sword of night's case here.

Ancient Meteoric Ore Greatsword R1 into ash of war is a pseudo combo, because it only happens if they panic roll immediately after getting hit. Latency issues making someone's model glitch around and escape from you is not pseudo. Hey steel, i replied on that guy's video that it is in fact a true combo while saying what true combos, which is the full uncharged ash into R1 or R2 and charged ash into offhand great katana L1. He replied to me asking for proof while there's literal proof in his own video. There are multiple cases where the footage of his own gameplay shows full uncharged ash into R2 being a true combo. Got to love to see someone disproving their own claim in their own video.
