Except people like Lil Wayne, DJ Khaled are very self-aware how bad they are with guitar. They are mocking the instrument intentionally because that is what their fans are expecting. As teacher. I actually think that the attitude "What I think makes a guitarist the worst, is not only the lack of skill, but a lack of self-awareness how bad they are. Combine that with a huge ego..." is very unhealthy for the guitar community and is very unwelcoming for the newcomers. This is exactly the reason why majority of the young guitarists got their self-confidence ruined. It got ruined because someone at the audience had to sarcastically comment "This guy thinks he's a John Petrucci...". So instead of actually going for the gig which would educate them the most. They just ended up being home forever practising and watching KZfaq videos, thinking they are never going to be good enough because they are not like Ichika Nito. Like somehow... Nowadays... If you are new to guitar, you are not allowed to go public before 20 years of practice. Just food for thought. If someone is clearly at the wrong gig. Is it really your task to tell them "Hey! You're shit!"? Also... Does someone really need to be professional before they are allowed to publish music videos at KZfaq or stream at Twitch. Playing in front of camera also requires practice and it doesn't happen over night.

@@GeneralMiller92FIN I agree. I'm not so much a teacher, but I've had people approach me wanting to learn. As an aspiring musician myself, I can say with certainty that confidence plays a big part in performing live. It's the same with any part you want to play in a musical performance. I've done a number of different karaoke hotspots heard this person or that and I've seen it both personally and in others. When you're not confident in what you're doing, it subtracts from your capacity for brilliance.

@@FallenFromThrones apples and oranges. you have both taken OPs (reasonable) point and twisted it "ad absurdum". nobody said or even implied you cant go public before 20 years of practice (but at least 20 damn minutes would have been nice!!!). theres a huge difference between gratuitously and unnecessarily wrecking an aspiring musicians confidence and giving clowns with zero self awareness/dedication to the craft a healthy dose of reality! (r/delusionalartists). giving everybody a participation ribbon and blowing smoke up their ass telling them theyre great every time they fart in the wind is not beneficial or productive (overconfidence more often than not leads to irony). you wanna see confidence eroded forever? ask american idol round 1 rejects (theyll tell you how they wish a loved one would have knocked some sense into them before they made an ass of themselves in front of millions of people on national tv). not every picture a child brings to you deserves to "go on the fridge"(its ok to say "nice try but this isnt your best work. keep at it tho"). realism stands between nihilistic pessimism and baseless optimism. thats where we should all aim to stand !

@@ShortFuseFighting you're assuming things, fella. Big time. I never said people should be praised for poor performance. They're not going to grow from that. But they're not going to grow from being called "clowns" or being called out for "lacking self awareness" either. And you also preach on reality? Buddy. How do you know they don't all ready know of the mistakes they have made? Have you spoken to them? They are more than likely to receive plenty of discouraging feedback without pompous snobs like yourself telling them off for trying to make something of themselves. If if ain't working, that's for them to decide because it was their choice to pursue music in the first place. You may think you're being constructive but you're really just being a snob.

His story is so sad actually. He gets made fun of and harassed constantly because people don’t know the full story. It really is upsetting to see especially considering how good he used to be

Then either he or his entourage decided to turn it into a circus show and I cannot tell if he is doing this concsciously. I would first assume he is playing the clown but I never saw him out of character so I wonder…

He later developed really bad arthritis which made him loose all control over his digits. This took a big toll on him mentally, and him uploading those videos was basically a coping mechanism to lie to himself that he could still play despite his condition. He was later also picked on by a bunch of KZfaq creators, and when StevieT covered him in his own perculiar and downright respectless way his followers personally attacked Richard on mass. Last time I heard about him he was diagnosed with cancer and things weren't looking well for him. I don't know if he recovered or if he died. Steve Terreberry responded to this news by making an off topic remark about it in an unrelated video vaguely reassembling an apology only to then instantly pick on him again afterwards.

@@Thomogon I don't know which video do you mean but I have seen at least 2 Stevie T videos where he clearly states that he didn't know Richard Benson was sick before he uploaded his reaction video. In both videos he also apologized for picking on Richard and honestly I haven't seen him talking about him anymore.

@@Thomogon some time ago he and his girlfriend released a cry for help on the italian television. He's destitute and extremely ill. It's a very sad story, and people have been picking on this clearly mentally distressed person for years at this point.

I think there was also an issue where he was severely injured, like, life threatening injuries. It was my understanding that the videos he posted with all the food being thrown at him was performance art to support himself.
