Fox News anchor Lauren Green had religious scholar Reza Aslan on her FoxNews.com show Friday to talk about Zealot: The Life and Times of Jesus of Nazareth, his book that has been stirring up some online controversy recently. And right off the bat, Green gets to what is important: "You're a Muslim, so why did you write a book about the founder of Christianity?" Aslan seemed a little flabbergasted: "Well, to be clear, I am a scholar of religions with four degrees, including one in the New Testament, and fluency in biblical Greek, who has been studying the origins of Christianity for two decades, who also just happens to be a Muslim."*
Reza Aslan is a religious scholar and author of "Zealot: The Life and Times of Jesus of Nazareth." He is also Muslim. This blew the minds of Fox News, including host Lauren Green, who quite possibly gave the most embarrassing, insipid interview in Fox News history. Can a non-Christian possibly be interested in Jesus? Is there any attempt to hide Fox News' agenda? How many times can an anchor phrase the same question again and again?! Juan Eduardo I don’t know man. Out of all of the 3 Abrahamic religions Islam seems the most realistic. We deal with real world issues and analyze our verses in the Quran rather than running away from them like Christians. The real world is violent and we make sense of it. If thats too real for you I guess you don’t have an accurate and realistic view of the world today and in the past.

Will, "The Truth is hard to believe for some" He clearly said in interview that he has written book looking at Jesus as a man and a historical figure who created a political movement which then transformed after his death into a religion... In that context, a Phd in sociology can write something on a Jesus as a man & his influence on social life. So ,just dont try to confuse word against another word. Look at the context of his explanation in the original interview

Which he conveniently leaves out that all of his ideas in the book are derived from sociological concepts, not historical ones. He uses the Bible and other writings, none of which are contemporary, to try to draw a sociological picture of what the life of Jesus was like. Aslan can write whatever he wants, I just don't see why he's being intentionally misleading unless he feels that if he's honest that the book is sociological and not necessarily historical that it won't sell as many copies.

It's not the same. He's twisting history. There are no historical records outside the Bible that state Jesus was crucified. How can he say he definitely was? A lot of historians arn't even certain he existed.

I recognized Ann Coulter from the cover of a book called "Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them". So I said, "Oh, that's Ann Coulter!" My aunt said back, "I didn't know you were a fan of Fox News!" And I didn't want to get political or anything, so I just said, "Um....yeah! I recognize Ann!" My aunt called my mom about a month later and was telling her about how I'm such a HUGE fan of Ann Coulter and Fox News. To this day, I still giggle at that memory!

I also think that someone must have been speaking in her earpiece telling her what to say, she clearly didn't do the research on him herself and didn't read through what was given to her, so why didn't she honestly try to conduct the interview using his answers from 1 question to lead into the next,... I'm still stuck on her thinking that scholars aren't real people, lol plus what has his religious beliefs have to do with anything really.

I feel so bad for the interviewee. That interviewer was rude, inappropriate and obviously needs to stfu and let the guy speak. The most ridiculous part is she hasn't read the book yet thinks she's got significant opinions on the subject which are totally off the charts. Wow, after seeing this video, I checked out the full interview, and it was even worse! Cenk and TYT spared us some of the most painful moments! What a disgrace that interview was. I was of the impression that Jesus was for everybody to study, not just Christians. Guess I was wrong about that one! Who cares if Reza is a Muslim or not. He's a scholar.

As a Catholic myself, I only have great respect for this man. The problem with the blind believers of faith is that we tend to forget that academics (such as myself) tend to explore the beliefs of all sorts to fully understand the facts/history. I personally encountered blinds attacking my love of science and my strong faith. They assume that those two cannot correlate into one person's interests. Well Atheist mostly argues about religion by using science as far as I seen. Science is the essence of Islam. The biggest scientific discovering we had are already written in the Quran. Even the big bang theory is there. The EXACT shape of the Earth, the movement of the Sun at it's FIXED place. I mean don't you see how the sun moves at where it is places when you see a video, it doesn't move from it position, but it moves at it's fixed place. Which haters kind of uses to tell people it's saying sun moves around the Earth which isn't true. Then now days I see people, mostly Atheists saying that fighting and warring happens because of religion and such. Where that too is wrong if you actually knew the religion or at least Islam for that matters. If you actually were to go very deep into the story or go way back into the history. I mean Islam is the one that teaches to accept people being different and learn from people being different. I mean most Atheist argues about religion and the materials they uses to argue about it. It kind of doesn't work out at all if you were to use those materials to argue with Islam. I mean it would be like using Islam to argue Islam. If you were to use science to argue with Islam, it's exactly like saying using Islam to argue Islam. It's like saying apple is red, so I disagree with apple being red. No it's not really surprising, it would be to me surprising if he were to be an Atheist.

If the U.S is not Christian, I don't know of any country that is. When we say Christian, of course, we don't necessarily mean that the nation has to have a state religion. There are several ways in which a country could be Christian, and the most common would be in having a large populace that consists mostly of Christians. In our case, there are at least 75% Christians in the country, which equals more than 250.000.000 people.

Goodness wtf is her issue? I think the study of what really happened in diff religion's isn't faith based. Studying diff religion's is open to everyone and many ppl of faith do study diff religion's and nobody says anything against it. My best friend is Muslim and we have a friendship that's not based on religion, it's based on love and trust and I think if everyone would put this religious views aside then we could all just get along!

Did u hear that Lauren Green (African American woman so-so journalist, highly inept, working for a bigoted biased ultra conservative news (if u dare call it that) organization), Reza has a Phd in the area of RELIGION (if that isn't clear enough) specializes in the area of RELIGION and he writes and studies it. Me neither - i can't stand him in debates and roundtable discussions. he usually comes off as such a tryhard. But this interviewer was so bad that i have some empathy for him

This does demonstrate a particular idiosyncrasy of people who dwell in the realm of cognitive dissonance. They simply are incapable of comprehending ideas outside of their bias and why anyone would ever entertain such thoughts. I have found this mindset to overwhelmingly exist in Conservatives. The very definition of what it means to be a Conservative effectively corrals its adherents into this narrowness. That is why though I do adopt many Conservative positions in my overall personal philosophy, my occasional Liberal inclusion causes Conservatives to dismiss me as Liberal.

I find it odd in that Fox news must have journalist's somewhere in the process that went to university. They seem to have forgotten the whole academic process. They didn't even ask the guy what conclusions he came to or am I just being nieve ?

Fox News is desgined to be viewed by the lowest common denominator. Even if such staff were allowed to give fair and reasonable interviews, it doesn't fit with their remit.

I think some of Fox New journalists do it on purpose to cater to their audiance. There was an Asian female anchor who acted like a ditz. But she actually went to Harvard and when she stopped working at Fox News, she acted totally different lol

I love this guy so much. He stayed sooooooooooooooo calm (compared to how I felt watching this) even though the reporter was being so difficult. I'd be going crazy having to repeat myself so many times. I hate when reporters ask leading questions trying to steer the interview. So frustrating. He just did a good job, I would have flipped out
