Good point, Phil, and I agree, blaming Colombia for cocaine is like a neighborhood getting the blame for a meth lab down the street. Unfair and unfortunate. And thanks for showing the natural high to be found by riding bikes in Colombia and Southern California and wherever this horrible retirement of yours takes you.

Well, yes, we get a bad 'traffic' conditions that affects many things we do. For sure, we are get used to it because there is no way to get rid of it. You missed to do so many things as you were there, I mean, we have so many different places to go for a ride. To the south, to the west, to north. It looks like your host took you to the east of the city only. But you did not have any delicious meals or food we get there. About racing, you could ride to Alto El Tablazo, Alto La cuchilla, Alto de Canicas, Alto de las Antenas, Alto Romeral(~4000mts over sea), Alto el Vino, Altos de Yerbabuena, Alto El Sisga, Alto de San Jorge, Alto de Tribuna, Alto de Patios(Coming from La Vega. And sooo many nice places very close to Bogota, all of them

And most people don’t text and drive because most people are driving stick shifts :) and yeah, Bogota is gnarly, traffic and smog are too much. The city wasnt ready for the millions of displaced people that had to relocate to the capital the last 50 years of conflict they’ve been playing catch up ever since. But just 1hr out its beyond beautiful. Btw... go on KZfaq and look up “Monserrate MTB downhill” and watch lunatics bomb that whole downhill to the bottom ...nuts

Colombia was named after the famous Italian explorer Christopher Columbus who discover America (the continent) in 1942. In spanish his name is Cristobal Colon so If you pronounce or write Colombia as Columbia is not totally wrong, it is just the Anglo version of the word. So no need to be pissed if somebody says Columbia instead of Colombia. The Escobar part is also not totally true, in Medellin and other parts of Colombia especially the poorest neighborhoods he was actually a hero like Robin Hood, he helped poor people and built houses, parks, streets and many other things that the local government wouldn't do, so just saying some Colombians will get upset if you talk trash about Don Pablo.
