I agree, he isn't a pastor, but a motivational speaker. Osteen leaves out so much of Scripture, especially concerning sin. He's not a true pastor if he claims to be. Love Tom, his take were so on point.

Saying you are "Christian" is being overused. There are so many celebrities that say they are Christian, but they do not appear to follow the values nor live a life that reflects his teachings of Jesus Christ.

I have watched Joel for many many years , in the darkest times of my life. His simple , joyful sermons have brought a lot of peace in hard times. I have never sent him a single penny. His messages are free and if someone chooses to send money to support the church then that’s what’s on their heart. It’s also my understanding that he doesn’t take any money from the church. That he doesn’t even get a paycheck. I’m not absolutely sure if that’s correct but my understanding is all his money is made from his book sales if this is the case, he has every right to have as much money, as books are bought. I have no problem with the amount of money he has in that case.

I've done a video on Joel Osteen, based on extensive research. I feel that I need to set the record straight on some things. First of all, Joel was the video engineer for his dad's church for 17 years. He was not wealthy until he was in his 40s. So he is very familiar with the common man, including the joy that is found in simple things. He loves basketball, and his first date with his wife they went to a Houston Rockets game in the building that they now use for their church. When his father died in 1999, Joel took over the church. He struggled at first because he didn't have any experience in preaching, but he eventually found his voice and the church began to grow. As a result, he was offered a book deal. The book sold well and he continued to write books, which resulted in an annual income of millions of dollars. As a result of that, he quit taking a salary in 2005 and lives off of his earnings as an author. So any suggestion that he's getting rich off of the donations of his church members is baseless. Also, the church had a history of flooding when it was the Compaq Center. That's a matter of public record, so when Houston got three feet of rain in three days during Hurricane Harvey, the whole city had to deal with flooding, including Joel's church Lakewood. The photos people cite as proof of no flooding only showed the exterior which is on an elevated lot. Inside the flood gates that Lakewood had built were close to the maximum level, so it would have been irresponsible to open the church to the public until they were confident that the building was safe. But Lakewood was never designated as a shelter anyway. Per the request of Houston city officials, Lakewood was to act as a distribution center and direct flood victims to the convention center downtown because it was better equipped for that. People who hate Joel Osteen or who hate preachers and churches in general seized on false information to portray Joel and Lakewood in a negative light. People who live in Houston and are familiar with Lakewood know that Lakewood has always helped the community during storms. In fact, they even took the initiative in helping victims of Katrina even though that was in New Orleans. As a result of their efforts, the city of Houston gave Lakewood an award to recognize their role in the aftermath of Harvey. What was expressed in this podcast was just regurgitated talking points from haters and the mainstream media that Valuetainment usually views with contempt.

As a pastor myself, I have to interject: pastors are NOT tax-exempt. Churches - as brick and mortal institutions - receive certain perks, like property tax exemptions. And of course, if you give to a church - or any other non-profit - you can get help at the end of the year. But as a pastor I'm still required to pay taxes.

Why do they always cut Tom off when he’s making a point? It’s like they don’t really respect him? I’ve noticed it more than a handful of times and it’s more frequent than it happens to the other guys. This time he was right in the middle of talking about scripture and PBD cut him off.

My pastor/ church gives away 50 percent. He publicly shows how much money comes inn and shows where it goes. On Easter. He gave 8 speech from 8 am to 6pm. No.break because he refused to upgrade the church. He says it's better we squeez and have multiple church times. The money can be used to help people.

I used to watch him and had a couple of his books. He started to get gimmicky, and when his church didn’t allow anyone in during a major hurricane, I was completely done.

They worked hard and kept the faith over several difficulties. They both sat down and wrote books, wrote sermons and effing put in the work! Honestly. Don’t speak on these ppl unless you have been to their church and have met them directly. I have met him and his wife more than once decades apart- and I have met celebrities and just regular ppl in this world. Those two are some of the most down to earth “humble” ppl. I’ve been around long enough to spot phonies and no sir ma’am- I tell you; these are NOT those folks. No sir! Have they made a few mistakes- sure. But they have been absolutely consistent with their messages and their word. Can’t stand when ppl try to come after someone as nice helpful consistent as Joel Osteen snd Victoria osteen. They are very positive ppl. Their service is tailored toward a tv format but it’s effective nonetheless and their production, transitions at their church are very professional m, VERY well thought out and are with mcmessage that are effective but easily digestible in authenticity. Everyone has tweeted something ppl love to get mad about. Saying you can get joy from the stars ( or a sunset) is effing true whether you like what’s said or not. What if a pastor doesn’t take any of the money from offering and are a successful businessman or businesswoman separate from the church are they able to be and stay wealthy?

It is my understanding that Joel has made millions off of his books. He has stated that he does not draw a salary from his church but lives off of his book royalty’s. He has a right to enjoy the financial blessings that he has.

I was asked by my mother to go and see Benny Hinn when he traveled to a nearby city. While I was approaching the facility I had never seen so many crappy, unmaintained, beat up cars pulling in. I'm talking dented up, broking windows, plastic covering, rotted interiors, wrong sized tires, bad paint, and smoking engines. These cars barely made it to the arena. Most of these people also appeared to have health conditions. Overweight, or frail, weak, unable to move efficiently. This was the largest gathering of desperate people I had ever seen in one place. Inside the indoor arena, there were no empty seats. They let us completely fill all the stairwells and isles. With all of people present the air temperature and humidity rose uncomfortably. Benny came out and you could tell these people hung on his every word. He asked for money, his security folks started passing the trays down the isles, the trays started overflowing with cash! I am talking heaps of cash! He had security at the ends of each isle and they were filling large bags with cash and running it out. Benny was laying his hands on the most desperate of people down at the stage. The crowd was eating it up. Benny would grab their head and yell they here healed. An old man in a wheelchair, who supposedly couldn't walk, stood up out of the chair after Benny laid his hands on him. The audience believed it all. It was such a scam. I felt sorry for the people in attendance. These people in attendance were in no position to be handing over what little money they had to this scammer. All so desperate to believe that giving money to Benny would somehow make their lives better.

It’s not about falling for anything. His message lifts people up. If you praise Andrew Tate and others for their message to uplift the youth, Joel is much better. Pat is speaking from a place of experience as he has listened to Joel and visited his church so he knows the “why”.

Fellow houstonian here and I'm going to correct you on one thing. I was 27 during Harvey. Nobody could get to his church! Holy crap. It rained non-stop for days on end. I-10, was not drivable. My pastor at the time was so excited cuz he just triathlons and he got to Ride his bike down I-10 for like 30 or 40 mi because nobody could get on it. That should give you an idea of how badly flooded it was everywhere. The spaghetti Warehouse looked like it was part of the Little mermaid. The spaghetti Warehouse was a restaurant downtown that had been around for many, many years. That's now closed. It was literally up to the ceiling and water. And even worse than that. Nobody could make it to his church. And the advice in the beginning with the rain was still going on and it was flooding worse and worse like was, don't go anywhere. Find a safe place where you are and shelter in place. Jenn, then after it stopped raining which was like 6 days, it took a while for the water to subside but they had to get emergency people to Lakewood first to make sure that the building hadn't flooded and electrical problems weren't happening. But going back to the first problem, they couldn't get people out there immediately because guess what? Getting people up to Lakewood to check out the safety of the building was not priority when you had people like me and volunteers or neighborhoods that were still going out in boats rescuing people from the second floor of their houses. It's such a stupid argument. And I'm not a Joel Osteen fan. But that is such a dumb argument. Not to mention that if you don't have the proper staff and you blood people into a space, you're going to have a high rate of crime such as rape, murder and mugging. It happened in the Superdome in Louisiana with one of the hurricanes years ago. So on that one, I'm calling not his fault

I watched Joel Osteen growing up as a kid with my father. He really had some strong words and good messages and positive intentions. All the people hating on him are strange to me. Theyre actually people causing real harm to others and this is who the people choose? Whats going on!?

To answer Adam’s? People give because tithing is a practice that is supported in the Bible. We give and it is up to Church leaders to do what they are supposed to do with those funds like support /help reaching the lost who do not know God. Tom gave a good Bible reference that sums it up. Those pastors will be held accountable by God. Also, we are blessed by giving and God more than makes up for what we give and provides us with blessings.
