For context I should add this. I played the game through on Authentic difficulty which is the hardest possible setting, all the footage in this video was captured on this level and I show that simply to stop fan boys saying the Ai is bad because it's on easy, they do this alot to try and defend bad games. I also actually show the difficulty settings as proof that the Ai is literally that bad. Once I was done with the game I went back in on an easier setting to enable X-Ray vision so I could show footage of this for the start of the video.

I was dying watching this as I watch my mid 60’s year old dad playing through absolutely loving this game. He has played through SE4 probably 15 times. It’s his escape. I lost it at the end

The rendering screwed up with this video guys, it looks a bit fuzzy, it may get better as the processing on KZfaq also stalled, hopefully that fixes itself. As for the game, well it's another lacklustre showing from the SE franchise, it goes from very immersive to laugh out loud deplorable all the time. I mean when are Rebellion going to just let us jump like most other games? When are they going to actually hire an Ai coder? This game has loads of problems but at times it's really great to play, sadly them times don't happen that often for me.

When i first heard of that game, a few days ago, i thought i was stuck in a timeloop. It looks exactly like the predecessor, they even surpassed the CoD level of "the same game every year". this is the "exact" same game, hell, even this review felt like déjà vu.

Despite how dumb and silly it was when Sniper Elite 2 was after the concept idea of the 1st game (2001), after that...the sequels just felt like Standalone Expansions rather than another game with different elements

Lol, you are right! How many times in games have I had to walk around a small obstacle when I should be able to just step or jump over it. It breaks immersion so much and it's often completely unnecessary.

I recently replayed SE V2, three Germans, shot one. The other two started looking for me until they calmed down and one said, 'stand down, all clear'. Then he said 'he's here somewhere' and they start looking for me again until they got bored, 'stand down, all clear', and a moment later they were again convinced that I was there somewhere and went back looking. Merry dance that lasted for a good five minutes till I shot their nuts off. Then again it was during the fall of Berlin so they might have been demented old bastards because they ran out of young troops, 10/10 for realism.

Imagine if you had the AI of FEAR and Halflife in a modern game, it would be so cool. The AI in this game looks hilarious (but sad). I prefer the Sniper Ghost Warrior series, mainly because it's firtsperson.

Great review as always. The devs better change their tune for the next installments or they won't break even at this rate. By they way, one of the Early Access games you thumbed up some time ago just came out. It's Hardspace: Shipbreaker, the one where you salvage starships on a space station. While I didn't play it in EA, it seems way better now and they adressed several of the criticisms in your review, mainly the time limit (they added "Open Shift", a difficulty level that removes the timer and makes oxygen consumption optional) as well as adding a bit more ship variety and a decent story.

I'm addicted to sniper games. You could give this 0/10 and I'd still play it just for the kill cam. Woudn't pay full price for it though, I'll wait until it's under $20.

Were you using the relocation system? In SE3-4 if you relocate after each shot they know your active but can't pen down where you are. So you can keep takeing sniper shots and remain stealthy

Eurogamer gave this an 'Essential' rating which to be honest I was very suspicious of. Glad to hear some hard truths! I'm really only interested in the slower 'bide your time' proper stealth sections so maybe I'll wait til it's dirt cheap.

Game has ran its course for me and has done since SE3. It literally seems like the same game with some upgrade stuff and some invasion mode. The only plus I can think of is that it’s on Game Pass day one.

Listening to the X-ray vision song never gets old. Also, I almost choke on my food when I was laughing at the ending.

Great game, fun to play, though I found that Teller mines wouldn't t work on the armoured car in War Factory level. Then on Guernsey level, Panzerfausts would not blow up the tank. They damaged it and it later disappeared. The same with the Armoured car in previous level. Anti tank gun didn t work on the Armoured car either. Also on the Spy Academy level there was a glitch where my rifle poked through a stone turret wall when firing in animation camera. That s on PS4.

I think the AI was broken for you because they were absolutely doing none of the dumb shit for me. They were flanking me, flushing me out with grenades, surrounding me, covering the guy going for the alarm etc. maybe I’m the only one who experienced that.

I'm playing the game on Authenthic and i'm having a blast so far. Yeah, it's basically another Sniper Elite but I think the scenarios are much better than 4, the weapon customization is great, coop and axis invasion is pretty fun too. Sadly, the game is not well optimized and has terrible antialiasing on Series S, I found bugs galore and the AI is terrible. For me it's a 7,5 to 8 so far If you have gamepass, give it a shot

This game really just looks like an expansion pack of the last one I don't know that I really see any graphical improvement at all, animations and controls are still a little bit janky, this series would be a prime example of what I would call a AA game All of that being said, I can't say it isn't fun. The series feels like it really hasn't evolved all that much since the exception other than larger levels, but this game has always kind of felt like Hitman meets Metal Gear Solid in World War II And that whole concept just kind of vibes with me I can't lie I wish they made bigger strides to improve the game, but considering this thing is on game pass I'm also not complaining too much to just hop in and do some more of the same in new places I definitely wouldn't pay full price for this though I'm happy anytime I get to hear the x-ray vision song though

The AI looks completely broken at the moment. There’s no way the AI in Sniper Elite 4 on Authentic Plus is this dumb, I play it regularly and they’re fairly lethal, and once they know where you’re hiding they kill you in a bush or corn field. I think it’ll be worth reserving judgment in 3mths once they’ve sorted out some of the bugs. Also agree that it’s really overpriced at present. Also fully agree with you on the lack of jumping. For me it’s really unimaginative they’ve not totally upgraded the physical environment and graphical engine given it’s been 5yrs.

It's more fun when you try to avoid being rushed, as if they surround you they can be quite dangerous. Waiting for soundmasks, using suppressed ammo, or trying to find well defensible locations before going loud.
