I wanted to add some shelves to my small apartment garden in order to add layering possibilities. Since I already had a wood fence this made it simple, fast and easy. The trick was joining long boards end to end while keeping them level and solid. Also I didn't want to spend too much. Hence a design that utilizes teeter totter elements. This is something that could be completed with a few tools by the newest of woodworkers yet also offers opportunities for the more experienced to show off or practice new techniques.

Simple but so effective! I so enjoy TUT, these videos, and your content that goes behind the scenes and beyond the average educational video. I know many just want straight info, without extras. I like knowing a bit about you guys. Many episodes are mini shop tours that give us glimpses. Oh, and some fine work with camera angles, in this one!

Now go back and cut out drop in circles for those small pots so the wind will not blow them off the shelves when the weather changes. 🤪👍🏻🤞

Great video and build! I love the idea of using the steel pipes for supports. It looks a helluva lot better than those shelf brackets from the hardware store. LOL There were 2 things I noticed that I would probably do differently, having watched you go through the process. I think that, if I were to re-create these shelves, I would screw them from the teeter totter bracket upwards into the shelves. This would prevent water from pooling in the little divots left by the screw heads. Also, I think that before I attach the shelves, I'd glue and screw the support beams to them before installing. Again, from the underside, drilling an oversized pilot 3" into the 2x4, leaving 3/4" of wood to support the screw. (beats the heck out of measuring and screwing upwards at an awkward angle) Other than that, I love the look and functionality of them. You've got a beautiful garden! Cheers, from Saskatchewan, Canada!

Interesting project. I haven't seen many gardening projects so focused on "levels", nature doesn't do level. The last time I saw such organised plant growth protected by so much fencing was on a drug enforcement bust!
