I met up with ‪@J.E.E‬ in Riga Latvia, where he gave me the full tour of the city he calls home through his eyes. We chat and discover the epic and grandiose Art Nouveau district before we jump on the no 15 trolley bus and explore the 'other side' of Riga. Maskavas district, which is notorious as having a less than salubrious history, particularly in the 80's and 90's. This area was home to the Jewish ghetto, and in typical Justin style we approach the locals to find out more about the area.

Thanks Wendall for the video. Loved the architecture around the centre remind me of some city centre in France and border towns such as Basel. The visit to the run down area was interesting especially the house with a wing mirror, thought that was the best. If it works why not!! May the Cornish weather remain with you from time to time!

I have never been to Riga, and this was very interesting. And how great that you have friends there to show the special things in the city. Thank you for doing this, and for sharing. PS And it looked a bit like you were on a trolley bus in Bergen, Norway 😃We also have those.

Thanks for lovely comment. Diversifying is a tricky and often fruitless endeavour on YT, it is a platform that very much rewards continuous repetition. It’s a struggle trying to equally offer myself as a travel and Cornwall vlogger, so I really appreciate your comment on this vid. If you DM me on insta, I can always chat more 👍

@@WendallExplores Not on insta buddy but if its ok to email you on your business email id be more than happy to do so, with regards to diversifying, though creating completely different content I too take issue with the YT algorithm also (i could chew your ear for ages), ive gone from 5000 views on shorts to 200 etc etc... but i wont go in to that here. this video deserves higher viewership end of, its brill, better than a few travel vlogs with higher viewership, but either way keep doing what you are doing, hope the mrs and the dogs are ok 😜👍

Thank you for revealing another aspect of my hometown, which I truly appreciate! My best and worst memories relate to this area! There's so much more to discover in those streets, particularly when exploring by tram line. I was impressed by how you journeyed from the trolleybus to the tram line. I can confidently say that area in Maskavas iela (Maskachka or “Moskovsky forshtat”) is one of the more perilous places. I grew up just a stop away, but at the tram stop you visited, I was once threatened by a gun-wielding drug addict as a child. The building before that, with its reinforced windows, housed a public sauna. In the 90s, we often visited it every Saturday, as many apartments lacked showers. Although I've been living in the UK for the past 14 years, I still make it a point to visit Riga a couple of times each year.

I used to live at Moskachka 20 years ago ,In present times it's almost nice quiet place,20 years ago it was bit rougher and every second guy had some kind of shotgun 😂 I think some of local residents still have them .

I am an American that lives in that shady neighborhood and your guide is exaggerating. A lot of young people are trying to bring the area back. He is describing the are in the 90"s when all of Riga was wild. When Justin said he was trying to find the Jewish ghetto, your guide should have told you, that you were in the middle of it. If you would have gone to the corner of Lazdonas iela and Daugavpils iela you would have seen a map of the Jewish ghetto on the side of the building (Trolleybus 15 - stope Daugapiles ilea). You will see old run-down buildings in most areas of Riga if you leave the center and the rich neighborhood. The concentration camp he referred to is Rumbula Forest Memorial Maskavas iela 471, Latgales priekšpilsēta, Rīga, LV-1063, it is not in Salaspils.

I can only say what I see, and there were some shady characters in the area and very run down buildings. Also, we were 100% stalked by that car many times, not a very encouraging welcome. I’ve travelled many parts of America, a country I very much love, but from experience I can understand why an American would not be too stressed by this neighbourhood. In my experience, urban USA has some of the scariest areas I’ve ever visited in my life.

@@WendallExplores I am from the Midwest and the suburbs. I had to get used to the ideal that graffiti is normal in many places of Europe. That the outside of the building isn't very important. Complete change from my neighborhood where everyone kept their yard and outside of there house perfect. Are there some shady people here? Yes, but there are in many areas of Riga is all I am saying. My boyfriend and I were pushed around by a drug dealer in the nice area of Riga you visited and damn he was sharp dressed in clothes I could never afford. I just wish people would really see all area of Riga by foot and but that would take to long. There are a lot of good families 👪 in this area.
