The highest mile beamer I ever saw was in a dealership I worked at in 2022. 2007 BMW 3 series. It had around 460,000 miles on it. You can tell bits and pieces of the interior were replaced. According to receiving and sales, they stated this was the original engine and transmission (turbo was replaced at some point. But timely maintenance was key). I got the full story from the sales rep: The owner had taken excellent care of the car, having to do a few DIY stuff to it. He was the third owner and the previous owner had a job that he traveled a lot, so the car mostly got driven around the US. He received it around the 300K~. He drove it up until he graduated and got a good job, he drove off with a 2018 BMW 5 Series. Signs of rust were all over the car, the interior was stiff, cracked, chipped, worn. New pieces mixed with old. The third owner said the biggest issue he had was when the second blower motor went out and being a college student who couldn't afford the costly maintenance of taking out the entire dash. He hired a friend who simply put a new blower motor in, but broke the connector. The connector was then rewired to a switch and the battery, where if you flicked the three throw switch you would get low, medium or high speeds. The car went to wholesale and was sold to a Buy Here Pay Here guy from Ohio at auction. I believe if IIRC it sold for around $3500. We all gathered around to marvel at such a rare sight. The second owner you could see he did replace bits and bobs here and there. The manual even had dates and what work was done in the notes section. I can guarantee if you take care of something and do the work yourself. Its probably not that bad. Looking for a diesel 3 series here in the US. I'm still a few months out from trading my current car so we will see what happens.

I don’t get the point of getting a car this old beyond sheer nostalgia. No one outside of the car club will think you own a BMW (just the cheapest model with a big engine you could find). A brand new mainstream (non luxury) car seems way more appealing in nearly every aspect than a severely outdated odometer and infotainment system in this car. The leather seats maybe spotless but they looks like they died and came back from the underworld and the car looks like it’s been dragged 180K+ miles no matter how you want to see it. Of course with that said to each their own. All I am saying is that you’re not buying a BMW, you’re buying the perception of owning one as compensation of not being able to afford a current one.
