Welcome to Vancouver Island. Gets pretty soggy this time of year but it's another kind of beauty. Beautiful all year round here. I'd recommend staying mid / north island (try not to go too far south of Cowichan Valley), otherwise you're likely to start running into locked gates left and right, which is REALLY frustrating to us Islanders and something we've been dealing with for YEARS. Have fun!

Growing up in the northern midwest I learned to love late fall early winter. Although the weather can be unpredictable, the beauty of the transition to winter is spectacular. The rut, the salmon runs, the fowl migration, no bugs, no crowds.... Safe travels Perry

Wow, what incredible family memories you have created. It is so cool to see a family enjoy each other not only as family but as friends, too; and to have an amazing chef as well. I once enjoyed my family like that when we lived in Oregon, California and in Europe but as my kids grew up and began their own families we've gone our different directions. This pandemic has created an invisible barrier between the the two coasts but as soon as the health environment improves we look forward to a huge family reunion at the foot of such a beautiful waterfall as you enjoyed. While living and working in Maui my favorite weekend activity was to motorcycle camp all around the island and mostly near the incredible waterfalls.

Awesome hearing the Eagles in that one bit of footage.... and seeing the Youngster, cool. Good call on turning around cuz of the snow ... it can accumulate quickly and make things rather difficult. Hours to move yards in that stuff.

Caroline the shots and editing in this video were Amazing!!!!¡. While I would love to make it to these beautiful locations I may never get too, but you and your family sure made it feel like I was there in person!!!! I could feel the cold, the dampness , and the warmth from Pete's little buddy heater or the Tim Hortons hot chocolate!!! So amazing!!! Peter always like the overviews of what's going on, Carolin your cooking!!!!! How did the bears not show up!!!!???? That had to smell amazing. Please more "cooking with Mom minutes" ! Dan and Pete please take us along on your exploring hikes. Did y'all go above the waterfall? I know y'all would of been swimming if it was summer!!! I would love to camp in a location as beautiful as that.. I think it’s better to camp in cooler weather conditions.. having a little extra clothes on.And making a fire is the icing on the cake.. be safe and have fun..

I lived on Vancouver Island and have also done a lot of off-roading. I envy you. However on the island they have small deer but very large brown bears. Couldn't help but notice that with all the food around including in and around the tents, it may not have been the most bear-safe campsite. If you didn't encounter any, you lucked out.

Yes, the logging in this area was very active. It was good to see that there was also a lot of planted regrowth happening but yes, logging sure leaves it’s mark.

How is it ? Packing the tents wet for weeks. I hope you are able to dry out occasionally . You guys are living the dream. Last year I bought a motor home and Jeep to go do what your doing. COVID derailed our plans. Hope to get out there next season.

Hopefully you can get out there and explore sooner than later. We are usually able to dry out the tents to a certain extent when the rain stops we put in a Mr. heater and warm the tent right up so that a lot of the moisture is removed.
