Cottage pie! Great choice. Its a classic from my childhood. I made it once but added ghost chilli powder to the filling to give it some heat. There's 1000 variations of the recipe but its good almost any way. Correction. Except the vegan ones. Put those in the trash where they belong.

@nicholasdoe4945 in recipes, both recent and ancient, the potatoes are mashed. Even the original recipe from 1894 specificallycalled for mashed potatoes. No idea where you got sliced from. As for the protein difference, he didn't specifically say beef or lamb, but I assumed he went with the more popular one these days, which is beef. It's more popular since a lot of modern people have developed some odd aversion to proteins that aren't the basic beef, chicken, pork, and fish. Also beef is usually cheaper than lamb now.

Here in Brazil, we know this dish as "Escondidinho" which means "hidden" in a diminutive form. The traditional way to make is to use mashed cassava on top, but some people also use mashed potatoes like in this recipe.

Love “shepherds” pie. I do a Mexican variation add chilli powder and cumin with some beans and corn in the meat sauce and use Monterrey Jack cheese in the potato mash. It’s delicious and makes for a change.

I make this regularly for my family, it’s a British favourite ( or used to be) especially in winter. Other favourites are sausage and mash, spaghetti, chicken curry, stew and dumplings, traditional roast, ham egg n chips. I cook from scratch every day but I think these meals are too much effort for those that shove chicken nuggets in the oven.
