When people normally travel for business, the company pays for the travel reservation. Depending on the travel policy for the company, if the spouse tags along the employee has to cover the cost of the ticket out of pocket. Business ticket might cost over $1000.00. A lot of business happens last minute so they don't have the advantage of having advance purchase discounts. In addition, companies has corp discounts which lowers the cost of the ticket. So there is a reason why he might fly in business and the spouse fly in coach. Also if the spouse is traveling on the company's dime, their might be requirement for the travel to be in economy.

on the money. as someone who travels for work, we have certain policies on the types of flights we can purchase (and if we're bringing spouses, additional policies on top of that). They're just stirring the pot for some drama.

@signalfire15
@signalfire15 6 жыл бұрын
This story sounds wildly misleading. It’s clear from the description of the couple that the husband has a corporate job. If that’s the case, there’s one huge bit of information they are leaving out - the husband didn’t purposefully pay for a first class ticket for himself and chose to get a cheap ticket for his wife. He just paid for a cheap ticket for his wife, period. His company would have paid for his own ticket. This happens all the time in business trips. The first class is always booked for the employees and if the wives or husbands want to come, they have no choice but to fly economy (usually because first class is booked). Most companies will not pay for your spouse to travel with you and the husband can not opt out of sitting in first class when it’s being paid for by his company. There is a possibility that the plus one can get bumped to first class but it’s extremely rare as most flights don’t end up having extra seats.
@bangtanphoenix7280
@bangtanphoenix7280 6 жыл бұрын
then just buy a first class ticket. or don't ask for her to come. if youre married, her money is his money and vice versa
@signalfire15
@signalfire15 6 жыл бұрын
Jada Collins-Jackson It’s not HIS money or HER money if HIS JOB is paying for HIS ticket. It’s his JOB’S money and they will not accommodate your spouse if he or she wants to tagalong. It’s a BUSINESS TRIP. The husband is there for business. I just wrote an entire long comment about how he’s not paying and there are usually no seats in first class if it’s a business trip. And even if there are remaining seats in first class, the chances that your wife gets a seat next to you are next to none as the seats are booked long before the employee even gets notice that he is actually going. This is a super common situation in the corporate world where wives or husbands tagalong on business trips because their spouse gets to go somewhere cool for business and so they take a vacation at the same time of the business trip. What company is going to pay for your vacation?! They pay for their employee to do the business and that’s it.
@bangtanphoenix7280
@bangtanphoenix7280 6 жыл бұрын
usually, you know when you are going. and she can still upgrade with their money. its not that hard. first class tickets really arent that expensive and business is even cheaper
@signalfire15
@signalfire15 6 жыл бұрын
Jada Collins-Jackson You don’t seem to grasp what I’m telling you. It is a business trip. The first class seats are booked for the employees. It is WORK. You go there to WORK. It’s a JOB. If you wouldn’t bring your spouse with you to a normal day at the office, why do you think it’s acceptable that they be allowed to sit with you on a BUSINESS TRIP. It is NOT a vacation and they are not supposed to be hindering your work productivity. It’s not a PERSONAL trip. You are still on working hours. Your company is paying to fly you to another location (granted, those locations may be wonderful) so that you can represent them. Not so that you and your spouse can have an extended holiday on their money. It’s bad taste. Period. The company can’t outright tell you not to bring your spouse because your spouse could just board the plane, sit in another section and there is effectively nothing they can do about it. And that’s how so many people get away with it. But once you get there, you and your spouse do your own separate things most of the time. As the employee has to work. If you’re lucky, you’ve got one or two days off near the end of the trip OR most couples I know will tack on vacation days at the end of the business trip and just stay there and fly back on their own.
@bangtanphoenix7280
@bangtanphoenix7280 6 жыл бұрын
but like here's the thing for a business trip, a lot of companies are just chill. at least, thats how my parent's job is. usually, they dont go together because my mom needs to take care of me and my sister. or the opposite for my dad. but over the summer and they CAN go if they want, shell get a seat too because they work for the same company. now if they work different jobs. then youre right. the business pays for him. bot her. but she can buy a ticket (which would be him buying a ticket) and they can sit together. not every person works a miserable 9-5 where they have to walk around eggshells around their boss.

I actually felt put on the spot when I was upgraded to First Class once. I am kind of quiet, but I was in my coach seat and had my military uniform on cause I was flying to my connecting destination to go back to Iraq. But I'm not going to have someone sit there and go on about how "liberated" she is and then still expect me to take care of her. Thank god I'm gay. Besides, this was a business trip. His company likely paid for his ticket. It's also possible he couldn't afford a buisness class ticket for her. He needs to rest on the flight, she can sleep when they get to the hotel. If the roles were reversed I'd say the same thing. Let the person actually working get the business class seat.

@Lily Rose Wrong. You aren't a nice person either. Sad. I'm happily married and have been since 2015. I'm simply stating the price difference that you and so many people don't understand, as clearly evident by 2:25. Take her example. If the price of the first class ticket is $2500, then it actually only costs him $1,500 after the 40% (for simplicity) tax deduction if he owns the business. If he is an employee then the first class ticket is paid by the company. Her ticket is not for business and is paid for by after income tax dollars. He must earn $4,166 get taxed $1,666 (40% again) to buy her $2,500 first class ticket. So his first class ticket is either paid by the company or $1,500. $4,166 vs $1,500 or free is the price difference I was pointing out. And just realize that he will have to work as spend more time away from her to pay for her first class ticket. The difference in price being $3,333 using her example of a $500 coach ticket (4,166-833). It's amazing how you still find a way to complain when someone works hard and is paying for your vacation and plane ticket. If she was paying then all of this is a non issue, because she either chose to buy the coach ticket or she would have thought it was worth it to pay more for first class. You have no clue what you are blabbering about. Go somewhere else with your sadness and negativity.
@AndrewD624
@AndrewD624 3 жыл бұрын
@Lily Rose I never said this is what I did. Rather I continually said that I was pointing out the price difference. You can’t expect someone to write an analysis of tax and finance issues in one sentence. FYI novels are fiction. Also maybe it is too expensive for him to buy her fly first class ticket, but they both still want her to go. Do you not realize that some people buy business/first class so they can work during the flight? I agree, it is not nice to call someone “trash”, a “dummy” and lie about their relationship status.

Exactly, I mean, the wife can totally buy a first class ticket whist the husband sits in the coach. What if the husband is just tired and he wants some personal time? He buys himself a treat, so can you, if only you pay your own ticket. Otherwise one is paying two persons' price just to get, what, equality? So every trip becomes some sort of "I need to satisfy my wife enough so I don't get called a misogynist with zero respect to equality."

@Amber L ikr? People talking about metaphorical situations that never happened like they're facts? I could never leave a person that I actually cared about behind in such a manner, unless it was for specific reasons and we had discussed it beforehand. I can't imagine riding first class and leaving my mom, my dad, my siblings, my husband, or anyone I cared about behind. I remember I once had a free ticket as a teen to sit in the train in first class on the way to visit family, while my mom had to buy her own (so she obviously didn't buy first class), and I obviously went and sat the entire trainride with her. I wouldn't even be able to enjoy sitting alone in first class for those few hours. Maybe if both of the couple think completely differently about this, then sure, it doesn't matter who sits where. But I could never handle doing this or having this done to me. Because to me this would feel very disrespectful. Especially for the husband's reasons listed in the article.

You cannot have equality and chivalry/ “ladies first.” Either you get treated like a man and pay for your own first class ticket, or rely on his money and chivalry and don’t demand to be, or consider yourself equal to him. I was flabbergasted when I heard that part of the video.

Also if that women’s husband travels for business and she’s only coming sometimes then literally it’s the same situation that Adrienne described. If it’s for his business then yeah he’s flying first class and she’s flying coach, it works both ways. This isn’t like they both are going on vacation, in that case then both fly in the same class.
