This was my campaign! I decided on a whim to send this army over to the new world via sea lane to gather more laborers and loot to keep funding my growing economy while I took down the fake dawi for good with my main forces (and to just get a bigger variety of fights). I very much enjoyed your reaction to the kitchen sink army which I threw together haphazardly - it really may be the ugliest army I've ever made. When I fought the battle myself, I didn't damage lizard moses nearly enough outside the settlement so he just curbstomped my forces when he got in. Still won (had to turn down difficulty lol) but with so little I was completely defenseless against the other stacks. I dumped a lot of resources into this settlement thinking it would act as a distraction that would hold off the lizards while my expedition army crippled their economy but I did NOT expect every lizard in Lustria to bumrush it down. Thanks for playing the battle, I hope you enjoyed it (despite it being a siege battle)! Edit: My god there are so many lizards, I think I've seen at least 8 full stacks of high tier units. Did not expect a random expedition to be the biggest challenge of the campaign lmao.

in my campaign any AI chaos dwarf lord didn't went too far. all eliminated by other AI around turn 300.

@@arisplugis5197 Chaos Dwarfs are pretty strong early game. By the time late game rolls around, Tzeentch is just OP as hell. Smashes anything in its path. Khorne is pretty strong too.

I've personally found that if you manually target the towers they will continue to shoot their targets even if the A.I. takes them. I think it's because the A.I. doesn't manually RE-target them. It's something I've used repeatedly in TWWII

I recommend the mod that turns off every capture point besides the main plaza and towers. It also makes siege equipment (rams, siege towers) better

In a battle like this, where the AI deploys in one spot, would it not be better to fight IN FRONT of the walls? This way, you can't be flanked, archers/guns on the walls would do much higher damage, and you get to have the towers shoot the enemy for far longer.

yeah but the towers are pretty inaccurate and a wrong shot will pretty much delete your unit if you're set up properly ini a square formation. Also, the AI can just go around you and capture the victory points. And guns need perfect line of sights, which they might not get shooting down from the walls Edit, based on other comments, it seems that owned towers, both buildable and walled, don't do friendly fire, if so the, yeah I guess your strategy would've been worth it

the true problem is not having a strong enough frontline, with multiple monster units and strong magic they will tear trough most infantry. the magic being more dangerous because of lack of space to move, if you move to the sides you get splited, crushed and cutted off from the door all in one move, you move to the front and you are forced to countercharge and loose (lizardmen have better charge bonus) if you move to the back, you get cramped up and destroyed by magic.

I have a 3080ti with an i9-12900kf, I drop down to like 8 fps if I quickly move around the campaing map, so yea, game has horrible optimization

Battles are also totally fine but damn the campaign map is buggy... I'm at around turn 160 with Chaos dwarfs and the turns are really starting to get painful, everything is just lagging constantly

Same. The laggy map has been an issue since at least WH II, but not nearly as bad. I was watching resource usage while on the map and it doesn't look like anything on my system is choking, so I'm inclined to agree it's just piss poor optimization. The slooooooow camera movement over the end turn makes it that much worse. Check out the mod "Faster End Turn Camera" (may not be the exact name but I can't check right now) if you want a less painful experience. Also adjusting your faction camera settings each campaign helps.

even with the amount of damage the lizardmen took on early in the battle they were still able to bring the hurt that's scary to think if the ai would have simply yoloed in at the start

I know there's a lot of issues but stepping back a little bit, warhammer 3 is awesome, I love the seige mechanics how you can basically play a mini tower defence managing resources to build towers, traps and walls, I think it's all really cool.

Yeah chorfs play a lot like skaven in my experience, strong casters, chaff front line with extremely strong missiles behind doing friendly fire and obliterating their first wave, good artillery, fireglaives are the warplock jezzails and the blunderbusses are the ratling guns

had something like that happen during a siege of a great bastion, garrison vs 2 full stacks of Norsca. Dumdums just stood there and got wiped out by the wall towers waiting for the reinforcements.

I've seen plenty of times during sieges how the AI when attacking will go entirely around to the other side like the lizards did and all the while getting blasted by towers.

I'm going to keep saying it; Maps in which you CAN'T deploy outside the tower range= stupid. The system used to control these wall towers= stupid. The damage output of these free towers= stupid. Add in 6yo gate glitches, and artillery being obstructed for no reason, and the silly capture point garbage all over my screen= stupid. If anyone I worked with came up with a solution this poor, and failed at their job for 6 years, they would be fired.

350 range man. We're 14 months out from prerelease and while damage and accuracy has been nerfed for some reason nobody has looked at 350 range with a 360 arc(sometimes) and asked if it's balanced or not. It's someone higher up that doesn't want to give up their baby.

I have tried that exact experiment in the past, sadly they tend to just melt too fast and the AI doesn't properly blob around a single unit on a wide reinforcement point like that

There is a glitch someone shown off. If turn off control large but turn on AI, it pulls in 40 for your side because the 20 unit cap is locked per player. Idk if they fixed it but it's another cheese to use.

yeah legend has shown it since wh2, it wasn't useful in this scenario but you're right, it does exist and it can be fairly useful to overwhelm the enemy (though it is even more cheese than strategically deciding whether or not to control a large army)

My last fort defense. Me: zombie/skelly army Them: two stacks of chaos They stand there tanking hits until reinforcements show up. While i build towers. They abandon seige equipment to charge walls. Now exhausted They can’t make it past my zombie wall with skelly backup. Flying Ai lord charges my lord in the fort and dies being mobbed by skelly spears and garrison ghouls. Heroic victory. AI dumb

It’s honestly crazy how CA managed to make the AI worse in a patch where the AI was meant to get smarter. Like the insane blobs they form. It just goes to show they didn’t play test their own patch at all because it happens in every siege.

It looks like the towers weren't doing any damage to Thenauin once they captured them so while it was funny it didn't actually do anything.

If you mean the outer wall towers then kind of, those are T5 towers from Lizardmen, which are some of the best in the game. Everyone get good towers at max garrison level, but not everyone get that good ones.

@@Schacal6666 They are my main(mostly Kroq'Gar and secondary Tehenhauin) The T5 Garrison buildings name is "Energy Dome", the Lizards are somehow using stone clubs and simultaneously invented energy shield technology.

So if longer sieges favors the defenders then what should be done with armies that siege slowly like skaven weapons teams? I'm finding slowly picking them apart still works but them building towers and zoning me out is kind of annoying even if I can destroy them.

The towers weren't actually doing damage to Tehenhauin after they took control of them. Towers don't do damage to friendly units.

This is false. The buildable towers don't do friendly fire. The outer wall towers do. Fairly easy to test as well.

@@freedomfighter22222 Dunno. I'm going to have to test that again. You are right that the hp doesn't seem to go down. But he never highlights Tehenhauin long enough to be sure. It took 2mins of 6 towers shooting at him to nick 1/3 of his hp so a single shot prob doesn't do noticeable damage anyway.

​@@ruukinen 11:10 he loses control of the final set of towers, tehenhauin has 1 or 2 pixels hp above the black line at the middle of the hp bar. 13:27 last shot the towers seem to shoot at him. 14:02 Legend gets a clear view of him when he comments the towers have finally stopped shooting. He has exactly the same hp. Also in the first volley at 6:40 only 3, maybe 4 shots actually hit him from those 5 towers that were shooting at him and he lost 1/8th of his hp bar. The first couple mins he is much further away from the towers and getting cover from the siege towers. If the 4 towers were doing damage to him at point blank range for 2min he would be dead.​

@@freedomfighter22222 No you are correct. I tested it out with the same settlement type with zombies and the towers didn't do any friendly damage even on a direct hit into my own zombies. Now I'm wondering if it's always been that way or if they changed it at some point. Found a post complaining about friendly fire in TWWH2 so it's changed in 3 at some point.

CA: We know how much you all liked capture points in Rome II so we brought them back! I honestly don't know why they persist with this bullshit. Capture points are fine in multiplayer to give real human players something to fight over and make it more than a battle to the death but campaign does not need capture points. It never has and it never will. If you want to model "momentum" do atilla style destruction mechanics instead.

Capture points are fine in multiplayer campaign as well, the battles heavily benefit from them when both sides are controlled by players. Of course the defender could get the advantage in other ways like settlements being designed to benefit the defender more or garrisons that aren't primarily T1 and 2 melee infantry. But if you take sieges as they are now, remove the capture points and do nothing else then they get worse for multiplayer campaigns.

That hold position you have: THAT is what entire siege battles should be. Just one army holding a single area (the wall), while the attacker throws everything at them. The attacker has to build an army specifically for seiging, unless they want to wait building seige equipment.

I love these videos but i'm not sure about using the ammo refill exploit every time. It doesn't feel right to me. It's one thing to abuse the AI and work around their stupidity(cheesing) but it's another do just get infinite ammo on units that are not balanced around it.

That shouldn’t even need to be an exploit. Why would a city not have large reserves of ammunition stockpiled for when it is under siege?

@@Loj84 I agree, having limited ammo in your own settlement is stupid. Sieges in fact barely give defenders any advantages besides those towers. I'd say attackers have more of an advantage. It's just that it's clearly not an intended mechanic to get that ammo with the walls. I don't know, feels wrong to get that ammo this way. Having unlimited ammo or replenish should be given by the devs in a balanced way.

Sieges are crap still. The maps are also incredibly large, even minor settlements. But you never get any cool "Helms Deep" kind of last stand battles where your lord their full army and the garrisson are defending against an unending tide. Almost all of these are against garrisson and maybe a minor force vs full stacks. You always only defend a small portion of the maps. The towers are bad. No defensive installments aside from the crappy TD mechanics. AI is completely retarded most of the time. I would say that it'S just the nostalgia glasses but a year ago or so I did a full co-op campaignorama in Shogun 2 and the sieges were way better.

The minor points give supply and a small buff to the defenders, only the main and secondary point need to be held.

Turn 97, most likely got tier 3 and 5 settlements with buildings maxed along with buffs to output from the research tree.

for turn 97 thats not even that high, i'm at turn 110 and have over 20k raw material, over 50k gold and over 4k armament per turn.

@@hardbrocklife Don't really see how the difficulty would affect those numbers? It could even be harder to reach them since you get less post battle loot.

@@ruukinen yeah its almost certainly easier on higher difficulties because of post battle loot as you mentioned but also because more fights=more labour to rush contruction and get higher tier buildings faster

It is not easy to impress me but Legend consistently impresses the hell out of me. In any other age of man he would be a Horatio Nelson or Scipio Africanus. The vile degeneration of our age made manifest when men of such clear talents are reduced to playing video games.

I'm sorry, I just can't watch city sieges. They just ruined part of the game for me. The mechanics are so stupid and maps are again even worse than last time. I just can't do it!

How bad is that game? Yes. How can they not get some sense full sieges? Sieges was a major downside in WH2 and they still can`t get it right.

Just pick dont control large army and select ai control for the reinforcements, it makes them come in without the enemy reinforcements coming in

Nope not in this circumstance. He is attacked by 2 faction with 1 army each. Not 1 faction with 2 armies. Doesnt matter what he pick here, the enemy will always have both armies at the start. The only thing clicking the "dont controll large" and AI controll would do is make him lose player controll over the entire garrison while still facing just as many enemies at the same time. Terrible advice for this specific scenario although there certainly are situations where that tactic is viable
