@@Sidekick65 right so I generally agree, just because of loiter time it means you stick around for longer and can provide a level of consistent support that most things couldnt at this point in time, with a weapon load and sophistication that nothing else like it at the time had. I was more expressing, let's say, frustration with the overestimation of its capabilities and the feeling of invincibility DCS A-10 pilots feel when they've never really put it to a real test like this.

@razgriz25thinf totally agree. There are others though that typically look down on the A10 for the very thing that makes it the right to for the job. I hadn't realized how.important those things were until we put them in their natural element AND btw, in that mission the Hawg saved at least 4 of the 8 pilots lives with its toughness

@@Sidekick65 I'm a pretty vocal critic of the A-10 once the cold war is over, and the technology is available to more or less replace the A-10 in that role. But in the full context of the time in the early to mid 80s, I dont think anything is around that could do that particular job, which did need doing. But it's a hell of a challenge. We discovered in Desert Storm too just how deadly MANPADs and SHORAD was to the A-10, and that's still true in the 80s.
