Wouxun KG-UV980P Transceiver Memory Channel Setup

This is how I setup memory channels in my Wouxun KG-UV980P manually via the menu in the radio and on the Wouxun supplied application.
There may be easier ways, there may be better ways. I just couldn't find any and this is what I figured out.
I'm very new to HAM radio so keep that in mind when I say "I don't know..."

Thank you for this. It has helped me learn more on this model than the manual has informed. The stock software does not seem to give the offset setting option. RT systems seems to cover many of the Wouxun models *update* note to self watch tip/trick videos all the way through. 🤦🏻‍♂️ I bought other software before finding out the proper runnings on the stock software.

Thanks for this. I had it figured out good to see confirmation of my madness. I found the instruction manual for the 950 provides a lot of missing info. Buttons on the radio are different but programming seems to be the same.

Hot Key 7 " + - " are pretty obvious, when you add the " R " it simply reverses the freqs. The " C " is indacating that you have a Rx ctcss tone set, the radio doen't appear to indicate when you have a Tx tone set. If you set the tones while in VFO mode then when you save the channel it will save the tones as well. Thanks for the # explanation while naming channels, that simplifies the process a lot, I did not know about those shortcuts!!! 73

Thanks, very helpful video. I was going to ask how to remove WOUXUN from one side and able to show both side channels/freqs as yours, but I pressed the top buttons A, B and C and got it.

Believe it or not the way to pronounce the Chinese name Wouxun is "ocean." My guess for the letter "R" is reverse mode. If you are local to a station you can transmit in the receive frequency like simplex if you can't hit the repeater well. No idea what the "C" means. The common term for the - and + is the "offset" which the standard for 2 meters is 600 khz. If you add a CTCSS tone to the decode then you will not hear the simplex users on the frequency and the repeater CW identifier if the repeater is set up correctly. For some reason our Chicago 2 meter repeater the CW ID makes the tone so you can't tone it out with the CTCSS decode tone. It still blocks any simplex users by using it for the decode.

Thank You, this helps. I have many questions about this radio. For now, How do I key in a 6M or 10M frequency on the radio not memory channel? When I turn on the radio it displays 2M and 70CM. How would I set it to display 6M and 2M? I tend to play in those three bands. I've not had a need to use 10M yet. This radio is extremely frustrating. Thanks for any help.

If you set up memory channels they have to be on Band-A, Band-B will not do 6 or 10. Plus it doesn't do single sideband. There's SOME FM on 10 and 6, but very little If you set a channel in "Frequency Mode" and turn off the radio, it will be there when you turn it back on.

I have no problem hearing it an it's mounted way down by the floor of my Dirtymax. Plus the mic does have a speaker in the back of it also. (If enabled.)

From this, chirp looks easier. Wouxon makes good rigs but I think btech is more my comfort level with the full English manual. Good run-through Bill.

Chirp is a breeze compared to this however it's hard to tell how long it will be before the chirp guys write in the Wouxon.

It can be, not legally. But there is software available to enable it.

Question: How did you get the screen to dim when not pressing buttons? Mine is always on and is BRIGHT! As you say there is a lot of vacuum pulling with the instructions! Thanks in advance!
