Nice idea. As others mentioned, swapping the non-adjustable end to be the one you move along the bar makes more sense, as you can do by just swapping them around. You could make various-length bars up to use on glue-ups of doors, windows, etc. if you didn't have sash clamps (which are pricey), even substituting the long steel bar with wood. A handy tip which could certainly get someone out of a jam.

Swap the ends and the handle will not get snagged on the steel angle iron.

That was a perfect piece of angle-iron. Another idea, one can secure the clamp, and hang Christmas Lights on the extra long long bolts.

Or you could buy a longer clamp that adjusts to different lengths much easier...

Good idea with the clamp now I have to get to a market somewhere and buy a clamp and a pillar drïllaand a welder. So much for thinking I am going to do some wood work soon as I get out of the nurses care
