This song was released in 2009 on the All Hope is Gone album. Shortly after the album release, the bassist Paul Gray passed away. He was Corey's best friend and this song was one of his favorites. Corey plays this song at his solo acoustic shows in his memory. Joey Jordison was the original drummer of SlipKnot until 2015 and he sadly passed away earlier this year. I saw him in person years ago. It is in des Moines iowa at this little unique theater that played rocky horror picture show at midnight every Friday. I didn't know it was him cuz I was rather young and never had seen him without his mask on. I couldn't reach him because he got quickly surrounded. I wasn't going to put all my effort into shaking his hand lol. So I just sat on the side for a min then I left. It was almost 1am I had to go.

The song is about an unrequited love, it is full of regret because he believes he drove her away by confessing his love to her. The video is about his obsession with her and inability to let her go after they split. If he becomes her he never has to let her go, she can never leave his life. The video was written and directed by Shawn "Clown" (percussion) and features cameo appearances by Malcolm McDowell and Ashley Laurence. The story goes that Paul heard Corey working on the song by himself and he was really self-conscious about it but Paul convinced him to keep working on it. Then one day after practice Paul "Pig" (bass), Jim "Jester" (lead guitar) and Joey "Kabuki" (drums) surprised him with some preliminary instrumentals to go along with it and the song became a collaborative effort that the band had not experienced before. That is why it doesn't really stick to any standard song structure. There is more (heavy) history to it but for that you should check out the live acoustic version, it really hits different and yes there is a video for it too.

SUPER LATE HERE BUT HERE YA GO FOR THE MEANING… Each part is about love, but each section is different. Part one is is about how he wants her to stay away. It's fate to be alone, and these things only cause pain for him and those involved. It's too late to save him so don't give him false hope by making him fall in love. Part two is after they breakup. He still remembers the good times they had, however long ago. She was making things better, but things got to hard and she left him, at least romantically. She was overwhelmed by his problem(s), and tried to support him as a friend. He thinks that her reasoning is bad and refuses to even listen to her. He can't be her friend, but he also can't hate her because they were so close. It's her own fault because he told her he was too messed up, but she didn't listen. She was his last hope for being better, and he had to give all hope to accept that she's gone. The third part is where he is avoiding her attempts to help. He has a stone will, and she'll break herself trying to get through to him. She can pity him if she wants but it's no difference to him. She gave up on him because she was too weak to stay with him, like he predicted. He doesn't want to hear the reasons why. She left just like everyone else, so the reasons don't really matter. Hope keeps making it seem like there's a chance for him, but it is ultimately manipulation that messes with his head. This always happens to him, and he gives one last warning to stay away. Even if she does really love him, it will only cause more pain. So just stay away, he doesn't want to have hope again just so it can die again. Arguably also about his drummer that died, (not Joey the recent drummer that died)but the bassist Paul Gray.
