Don't judge a book by it's cover when you see a Ray Stephens song. Comedy - which he is very good at -- is his side gig. This man is a musician first and after this song rose to the top of the charts in the early 70's, a lot of people - including me - were surprised when he went in the direction of comedy albums and videos. Great song, selection and reaction -- thank you, Imadrummin and Harri!

Ray Stevens is a country & pop singer-songwriter & comedian mostly known for his novelty hits such as "Gitarzan", "Ahab The Arab", "Along Came Jones", "The Streak" and others. But he also did a few serious songs such as "Misty" & "Everything Is Beautiful" which he won a Grammy for in 1970.
@memorylane7068Ай бұрын
My favorite of his as well! It was his daughter's second grade class that sang the children's chorus parts. I believe this video is from the later 80's video era.

I was lucky enough to see Ray Stevens live back in December. He is an amazing musician and singer. Ray Stevens covers a broad spectrum of music. Not just comedy. He does some gospel and also covers the standards. He also did a whole album of Frank Sinatra songs. Since 4th of July is coming up, you might look up some of his patriotic songs.

Ray Stevens had many hits with serious songs, as well as funny songs. This song actually went to #1 on the Billboard charts and is actually Ray's biggest hit. If you would like to hear another serious song, check out his remake of "Misty" which was also a big hit for him. If you would like to hear another funny hit song from him, check out one called "Guitarzan." I can't believe no one has reacted to this one yet.

Love Ray Stevens...grew up listening to him, Funny AND Serious. When you started to play this one, I literally remembered all the words to it. And THIS is the message we had all the time growing up. It is one of the reasons we get so frustrated at the narrative the media & the government is trying to make the American public to believe, that everyone is racist. THIS message was the message everywhere when I was growing up in the US from the late 60's and onward. This was my reality. Thank you for bringing this one back to life for me! Loved it.
