♥ Be sure to check out her work with Eurythmics! Annie Lennox has been named "The Greatest White Soul Singer Alive" by VH1 and one of The 100 Greatest Singers of All Time by Rolling Stone. In 2012, she was rated No. 22 on VH1's 100 Greatest Women in Music. In June 2013 the Official Charts Company called her "the most successful female British artist in UK music history". As of June 2008, including her work with Eurythmics, Lennox had sold over 80 million records.

Dude...I completely get your appreciation for Annie Lennox. There is nobody like her. She is special in the way that Janis Joplin was...a total original, nothing like her before or since. Annie's material is high art, way beyond mere "pop" music. Her vocal ability, songs, music, and videos are fantastical, magical, theatrical, baroque masterpieces. You have to see the video THERE MUST BE AN ANGEL PLAYING WITH MY HEART. Very theatrical production and the singing is EPIC.

Annie Lennox had a great run of hits with EURYTHMICS, as part of a duo which included David A. Stewart. From 1981-1989 they released an album a year, except 1988. They reformed briefly in 1999-2000 after a decade long break. Their best work was done together in my opinion. You're right, she can definitely sing and duetted with Aretha Franklin on 1985s "Sisters Are Doin' It (For Themselves). Here's a list of their "Greatest Hits" and some personal favourites: LOVE IS A STRANGER, SWEET DREAMS (ARE MADE OF THIS), HERE COMES THE RAIN AGAIN, RIGHT BY YOUR SIDE, WHO'S THAT GIRL?, SEXCRIME-1984, WOULD I LIE TO YOU?, THERE MUST BE AN ANGEL (PLAYING WITH MY HEART), SISTERS ARE DOIN' IT (FOR THEMSELVES), IT'S ALRIGHT (BABY'S COMING BACK), WHEN TOMORROW COMES, THE MIRACLE OF LOVE, MISSIONARY MAN, THORN IN MY SIDE, YOU HAVE PLACED A CHILL IN MY HEART, I SAVED THE WORLD TODAY, I'VE GOT A LIFE. Some great lesser known Eurythmics songs: JENNIFER, FOR THE LOVE OF BIG BROTHER, I LOVE YOU LIKE A BALL & CHAIN, CONDITIONED SOUL, SHAME, SYLVIA, LIFTED and FOREVER. The two songs you've listened to so far are from Annie's solo career post 1990 when Eurythmics had unofficially broken up. I suggest you take a deep dive into her debut album DIVA (1992) it's a wonderful record from start to finish, aside from WHY - I really like MONEY CAN'T BUY IT, COLD and THE GIFT. From her follow-up album of covers, 1995s MEDUSA, I'd recommend "A Thin Line Between Love & Hate", "Train In Vain" and "A Whiter Shade Of Pale". From 2003s BARE album, "A Thousand Beautiful Things" and "Pavement Cracks". From 2007s SONGS OF MASS DESTRUCTION album "Womankind" and "Big Sky" are stand out tracks for me.

It's not just her voice. It's her eyes, her big smile which she uses brilliantly and then there's the emotion and energy in her voice. She's captivating and memorizing. She walks a fine line of sexuality. You never know what to expect and that's just part of her charm. Watch some interviews with her. She's an icon and a true master of her craft! One of my personal favorites is A Whiter Shade of Pale.

I remember hearing this song as a kid in the 90s and just stopping what I was doing and listening to it. It’s so interesting and intricate it grabbed my attention and made me really listen to what was going on in it. The same with the video, which I didn’t see until a number of years later: it’s so visually entertaining you can’t help but watch it all the way through.

The next solo songs by Annie Lennox you have to check out are "Walking on Broken Glass" and "Little Bird" (both hits from Diva, her debut LP, the parent album featuring "Why?"). But DO NOT sleep on Eurythmics, whatever you do. Eurythmics was a hugely successful Pop duo in the 1980s with Annie on vocals and her ex, David A. Stewart, as the primary backing musician. Their biggest and most iconic hit is their 1983 single "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)" (a full decade before "Why?" and her hit Diva LP), but they had several major hits before Annie and Dave split-up and pursued solo careers. Early hits by Eurythmics were beautifully icy Synthpop ("Here Comes the Rain Again") and angular Postpunk ("Love Is a Stranger"), but within a few albums, their sound was also incorporating Motown ("Would I Lie to You?"), Hard Rock ("Missionary Man"), Gospel ("There Must Be an Angel Playing with My Heart") Techno ("I Love the Listen to Beethoven"), and Adult Contemporary ("Don't Ask My Why"). As great as their songs, arrangements, evolving styles, and image were, Annie's vocals are definitely the consistent thread and star of the show. By the late 80s, she was holding her own in duets with vocal giants like Aretha Franklin ("Sisters Are Doin' It for Themselves"), Al Green ("Put a Little Love in Your Heart"), and David Bowie (singing Freddie Mercury's part in "Under Pressure" live at the Freddie Mercury tribute). For a fun bonus, you should also check out her and Dave's first band The Tourists. They had a coule of New Wave/Power Pop hits in the UK in the late 1970s. "So Good to Be Back Home Again" is easily the pick of the litter, though their cover of Dusty Springfield's "I Only Wanna Be with You" is very solid. David A. Stewart (Dave Stewart) also had solo success - mostly as a producer and studio musician, but he also had a few Alternative and minor Pop hits, as well as the worldwide instrumental Soft Jazz hit "Lily Was Here" in duet with saxophonist Candy Dulfer.

I rediscovered this song recently and it's simply addictive to listen to, especially how that violin is playing on the bridge and the song picks up it's momentum afterwards. Being in a sense "post-love" myself (where "I loves yous" mean nothing today but in the context of first love or a love relationship it mean something), I am beginning to click with the meaning of the song. Break-ups and/or seperations can be very brutal sometimes and facing the harsh reality afterwards that the fairytale and love is all gone. I didn't see this song that way before and now like it allot more. (thought it was some crazy occult song because of the reference of demons and monsters and the haunting way Annie sung it. It didn't feel that haunting when the original guys put it together and could pass as just a wierd 70s carry-over into the 80s tune. She delivered this in a much more richer, haunting, and vibrant way as a cover than the original artists!)
