Crafty Friends, there are so many wonderful ideas/suggestions/questions for placing the elastic! Please check out the comments for some of those alternatives, or if you want to try something different from the way I’ve shown in the video, please feel free to experiment/tweak the design to make it work for you. I'm a writer, so I always have a notebook in my bag (you never know when inspiration will strike). I've often found nice notebooks that just look fugly, so I've not bought them, despite the good quality... I'm going to be getting these in the future, and make them fit my style. Thanks for this tutorial, I don't know why I never considered doing this.

I love your perfectionism. I was raised by a perfectionist mother who served in WW2. Her motto was do it right the first time and no one will have to try to fix your mistakes. I'm so happy you stripe matched the 'blocked line' inside covers. It looked perfect and professional. Also loved the way you described your tools by proper name and usage. I really love the color coordination of the spine and the paper you selected to use for this project. It makes the finished journal look better than a high- end journal. I’m just blown away with all your beautiful creations. I ordered the file folders (and a few other items) to make the planner and notepad. I can’t wait to start on that one. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and time teaching us how to make new things and the best part is we never know from day to day what the next amazing project will be.

Lovin that “big ol spatula”, the finger cutter blade I need that, and the wide double sided tape oh my goodness I need that. lol. I just made 40 prayer journals for my bible study class a few weeks ago and all of these tools would have been great! And do they still sell xyrons? Mine is ancient! Wow, those are beautiful! Could you glue the elastic inside the back cover before you add the checked liner, so that the liner page would cover the glued-down elastic? I love how you explain the tools you use and make it look so easy. And can I say I love your blue manicure? Lovely presentation!

I went to Hobby Lobby to get my journals. Dollar Tree didn't have any more. I found them on clearance for $1.49 so I considered it a win. I am making 5 of them for a sweet friend and her family. They made a difficult move and are now looking for a new home. Parents are doing OK, but the 4 Littles are do not understand the entire situation.

My sister and I made something similar years ago when we were into Stampin' Up! Yours are more affordable and, in my opinion, more elegant looking. Ours used Dollar Tree composition books and we stamped our cover pages. We used strips of a velvety paper to cover the spine. We didn't do anything pretty on the inside at all. We also made our embellishments with ink, stamps, embossing powders etc. Love your channel! You've reignited one of my creative interests, that I thought to be long ago faded. Sherry, I could EASILY spend my entire day just watching all your videos. This is a wonderful, gorgeous project. My sister lives with her son & 5 grandchildren, and they, unfortunately are NOT grateful kids. My sister has had each one since birth & does everything for them and the kids do nothing to help. So, they think Aunt Nanci (me) is the mean sister, because I would never put up with how they are. I am going to make each one of them one of these 'gratitude' journals so they have to actually THINK about all they have & all their grandmother does for them.
