Patsy died way too young at the age of 30 in a plane crash. So many great songs... "Walking After Midnight", "She's Got You", and "I Fall To Pieces" are just a few of her fantastic songs. More Patsy Cline please! Peace

Me three. Patsy Cline and the trio album Linda/Dolly/EmmyLou are the only country albums I listen to. Patsy and the trio women are/were just amazingly talented vocalists and performers.

She took a very good Willie song, and her cover went through the roof. Heck, through the stratosphere. Ended up in the top 10 of the decade, and one of its most remembered hits. (And willie's original isn't bad either.)

That was the amazing Floyd Cramer on the piano, backed up by the Jordanaires who also sang back up for Elvis Presley among many, recorded in what was called the Nashville sound with a strings and an orchestral sound. Patsy is pretty much considered the greatest of female country singers of all time, gone much too soon at age 30, but the first female country artist to establish herself as an opening act, she wore glamourous gowns, and made she sure wasn't treated like some little woman by many of the exploitive men in the industry at that time. The saying she coined was, if I don't see the cash first, you don't see the Cline, because many were known to rip off performers by not paying them after they had already done the show. She and Loretta Lynn were best of friends and Patsy helped Loretta in her early years in the music industry and was also a big sister influence to a young Brenda Lee.

Love her voice so much. She also has some upbeat stuff and she belts now and then. She was huge back at that time and it was such a tragedy when she died in the plane crash.

Patsy Cline has one of the best country voices around. She had so many great hits such as "She's Got You", "Sweet Dreams", "When I Get Through With You", "So Wrong", "Leavin' On Your Mind", "Walkin' After Midnight", "I Fall To Pieces" "San Antonio Rose", "Blue Moon Of Kentucky", "Half As Much", "Faded Love" etc. She was only 31 when she died in a plane crash in 1963. In 1985 Jessica Lange starred in the movie about Patsy's life called "Sweet Dreams". Home Free does an awesome version of "Crazy".

Willie Nelson performed the song in concert many times over the years and he liked to change up the arrangements to keep it fresh. The jazz elements of Patsy Cline's version do lend themselves to the Rat Pack gangster vibe, but I think there are other songs from back then that fit that picture better. The pictures I get are working on a car in the garage while an AM radio plays in the back ground, or shooting pool in a bar in the afternoon while the song plays on the juke box and the bar maid brings you and your buddies another round of cold beer.

I fell in love with Pasty Cline due to this song, 30 years after she died when I was in my 30's. Of all people, Willie Nelson wrote this song in his garage in LA from the story I heard when he was an unknown song writer trying to break into the industry.

Very funny reaction fantasy😄 Patsy's voice was sublime. Even though she is known as a country singer, I think she was more soul/blues. My favorite is "Sweet Dreams" - beautiful. Thinking back on her songs, the ones I remember are all heartbreak songs where she has lost her man. She must have done some happy songs, but I can't remember those. It was a great loss when she died in an airplane crash in 1963.

My all time favorite female singer, such a soulful, smooth, & melodic voice like no other. She was the original Queen of Country & one of the first big female stars in that genre. Before Patsy came along, country music was predominately made up of male performers. She broke down the barriers & forged a path for all female country singers to follow. She helped & befriended Loretta Lynn, when she got her first start in the business. They were best friends & after Patsy tragically died in a plane crash, Loretta honored her friend by naming one of her twin girls Patsy a year after the accident. The other twin was named after Loretta's sister, Peggy. Patsy died in 1963 at the young age of only 30 yrs old. That was 4 years before I was born, but my dad was a big fan so I heard her music while growing up. Crazy was one of her biggest hits but she had many others. A few of my top favorites are - I fall to pieces, Walkin' after midnight, She's got you, Tennessee waltz, & Your cheatin' heart. Please check out more of her classic songs, you won't be disappointed. They made a film in 1985 about her life called "Sweet Dreams" starring Jessica Lange as Patsy - great movie & definitely worth a watch!

You asked "How important was Patsy Cline back then"? She was Huge ... She single handedly brought country mudic into the foreground of people's minds & conciousness. Leading the way for other great stars to shine on shows like Hee Haw. When she heard Willie's demo of this song, she flat out refused to touch it ... Willie sings Around the beat ... Before or after ... & she couldn't figure out how to do it, but when told to just do it her way, it was recorded in one take. I'm so glad you're covering, discovering & loving her contributions to the beauty of this world ... We couldn't have her for very long, but just hear what she left for us ... Magic.

Most people think Patsy Cline covered Willie Nelsons song when in all actuality he wrote that song for her to record. She had the hit with it because it was basically Patsys song. Willie Nelson also recorded it on one of his albums but it never became a hit because it was never released.
