YEEEESSSS ANOTHER NEW SPROUT! WELCOME TO EORZEA WARRIOR OF LIGHT!

I started playing FFXIV 5 or 6 years ago and ive seen that cutscene multiple times, know exactly what it means and its repercussions, and even so, it still envokes a strong emotional reaction from me. A feeling of wonder and amazement, and reminds me of my early days. Absolute top tier cinematic.

if you haven't already been told, the initial release "1.0" failed pretty badly, there were attempts to fix things, but ultimately it was decided to just start over, as they patched the original game the devs included a storyline about the lesser moon "Dalamud" being directed to crash into Eorzea by the Garleans, and players were to attempt to prevent that from happening, eventually the servers shut down and players that were on at the time were shown the first part of that cinematic, basically they got to see the world end. as far as other cinematics, it's up to you really, I've seen some streamers watch all the available cinematics in one go, but most tend to wait until they're on the cusp of starting the next expansion before watching the related cinematic, each expansion gives 2 sets of credit rolls, one after the main expansion story (2.0, 3.0, 4.0, etc) and one after the patch content for that expansion (2.55, 3.55, etc). there are launch trailers and patch trailers as well, but those show in game stuff that despite lack of context, may still be spoilerly depending on how you view spoilers.

For context, that was known as the 6th umbral calamity. Bahamut escaped his prison and destroyed everything. Archon Louisoux teleported you away to save you and you get transported 5 years into the future. The Warrior is the stand-in for your character as he will be for every trailer. There is another version of the trailer that shows you how it ends. What happens after you teleport away. It’s called Flames of Truth. You see this after completing the optional Coils of Bahamut raid series. The pinnacle end game content of ARR. I’d recommend doing it as it’s really good content and story which you don’t even get told to do

The music in FFXIV is one thing that never gets old. Every expansion and every patch keeps churning out the most amazing tunes you can ask for.

Fun fact, at the end of the cutscene when the male hyur (human) whistles for his chocobo, the one that answers him is the same model as the legacy chocobo that players were gifted for supporting the development team by subbing for a three month period when they turned subs back on. the game was essentially free to play for a time because the team didnt want to charge for the game during its transitional period. They eventually turned them back on later and if you subbed during that time, you got the chocobo when ARR was released, along with your name in the ending credits of ARR. Also any characters created in 1.0 were considered "meteor survivors", regardless of sub and have a special tattoo on their upper back just above the shoulder blades. you can see it if anyone has an open back glamour on that doesnt have any sort of special characteristics. My female miqo'te is the only one that has it since she was the only character I had when 1.0 was still running.

Welcome to the Wonderdul Rabbithole that is FFXIV 😊 FFXIV 1.0 (as we call it as player), was a great 'looking' game, that had MAJOR problems. Things like a Reliance on player crafting for its economy, but 0 market-board, all trading had to be done face-to-face. Restrictions on EXP earning per day (as a way to curb the JP players from being on their computers to long). Gathering AND Crafting were Minigames that were 80% luck based. No real 'quest log' to speak of, and a complicated as heck combat system with minimalistic UI usage (yes we had a UI, but most input was still arrow keys and enter button. It wasnt a true 'click' UI). The Game was so bad, that Square decided to 'end the world' Via an In-game event that lasted about 2 months, and wrote that event into the actual 1.0 story. Whi h is what the first 1/2 of that oppening depicts. That red moon you see was slowly getting bigger and bigger in the IN GAME world's skybox as the story unfolded, and the shutdown moved towards the final day. Enemies started spawning even inside 'cities' where Enemies normally dont spawn either as the days got closer to the end. Then, on that final Day... the First portion of this cutsceen you watch, everything up till the point Granpapa-Elf is enveloped in white light, was the LAST thing us 1.0 players saw before being punted from the servers with a message from the Dev's saying "we will be back". 1.5 years later, A Realm Reborn (FFXIV 2.0 to us), launched. and picked up quite literally at the point where the "heroes" teleport into a forest after Granpapa-elf teleported them away at the end of the Initial Closing movie. The 2nd half of the video you watch is what they LATER released as the Oppening of 2.0's launch, to 'fill in the gap' Between when Elf-granpa sent 'us' (the heroes) away via the teleport, and when we 'start' 2.0, being teleported 'into' the forest, 5 years after-the-fall. Those "Gathering" Minigames are still in existance in current-day FFXIV.. they are now 'mini-games' in the "Casino" in game called the "Gold Saucer" up at the Chocobo racing and Minion-battle areas. So yea. 1.0 was a failure... so SE literally nuked the world in-lore, shut the game down, gave it a near full over-haul, re-launched, and picked up right where the shut-down/world-nuke left off, with a "5 year gap" in-lore having passed between the two instances. *quick edit* the song playing in the background at the begining is called "Answers".. its the one song guarntee'd to stop nearly every long-term player of FFXIV in their tracks and make them cry or get covered in goosebumps.

If you like the music already you are going to have a blast with the boss fight ost's

Until you finish all of ARR, do NOT watch the Heavensward trailer. But before then, you can watch the FF14 trailer for 1.0, the original release before the calamity. It contains references to other events that took place before the calamity, but is also a bit of an oddball because it emphasizes mechanics that either don't exist or are downplayed in ARR after the reworks for rerelease.

yeah FF music is something special no matter how many times i listen to songs i still get goosebumps. and the story in this game has dragged me through all the emotions that exist well worth playing for those on the fence (free trial is 10x worth to see if you like the gameplay)

If you haven't seen it yet or you haven't had it recommended before I recommend watching "A Realm Reborn Story The Waning of the Sixth Sun" it gives you a recap of the 1.0 story As Told by Loisoux (the man who saved the warrior of light in the calamity). Gives you a bit more context of what happened before without feeling overwhelming. Do I realize this comment is probably too late if you haven't done it already and you feel like Final Fantasy 14 might be a new mm04 you for awhile I would try and wait to experience the trailers until you finished their respective expansion before the next one. Not only does it give you some context especially for the later ones before seeing them the players love to see first-time reactions when the streamer is looking forward to what's coming next after they finished each expansion.

"Tell us why, given life, we are meant to die, helpless in our cries?!" probably the rawest line in the entire song, 'Answers'. and a very thematically important question to the story of this very fascinating game. so go forth, explore the world of the game, and find your answer.

the final moments of 1.0 is always something i wish i was around to actually be part of. just for the in game lore that it actually acknowledges that you were there during the battle of carteneax (sp)

When it comes to watching the other cinematics of FFXIV, my word of advice would be to: 1) get friends to take you through 'The Coils' after you finnish base-game ARR, instead of watching 'flames of truth' on youtube. 2) Have someone in your community write down the Quest-names of each quest thatvleafs into each 'Expansion'. And watch thebnext Trailor after you get to those quests. Each Expansions OG story ends on a 'Title Drop Quest', ie: Guest titled "Heavsward", but the trailors for the next exoansion include bits from the 'betwern expansion' content. So wayching them directly after the 'title quests' isnt really a good idea. :)

Still Hits Hard As Bahamut!

Bahamut is a big boy... Wingspan is like a few kilometers... Hard to find "real" numbers on it, but ive seen anything from 12km to 1600km (this one is kinda too much), but even the potentially small bahamut is HUGE

I will say “Answers” the song in the trailer during the battle and bahamut’s appearance is both the main theme of ARR, and also a tying thread all the way to Endwalker the latest expansion. With the end of Endwalker a storyline spanning 10 years has reached its end, and now we are looking forward to another 10 years with a new storyline starting with Dawntrail

Oh this isn't actually the start! You should check out the trailer for 1.0! It has a fun vibe. Plus, it is canon to the trailer cinematic timeline, and is referenced in a later trailer. Fun trivia! The Player character stand in (the Warrior in this trailer) has an official name! The Collector's addition of ARR came with a DVD that had some cutscenes from 1.0 and in it his model is used as the replacement for the player and his name is Meteor Survivor. However! Before that the dev team unofficially called him Hiroshi after one of the senior staff members. And the fans also gave him the joking name of Derplander. Not bad for a character who doesn't actually exist.

The first half of that isn't technically the trailer, just the second half. Yes, that was the Calamity, it was the final cutscene that played when the servers went down for 1.0. We had to wait a few months for the second half.

You won’t fully understand the meaning of the Answers song until you finish the story in Endwalker

When I started ARR, I thought the Answers cinematic was amazing. After Endwalker, I can't get through it without shedding a tear.😢

For an extremely long period of time, about 20+ years or so. Square/Squaresoft/Square Enix were unanimously considered the kings of CGI animation in both their games and trailers. The rest of the gaming industry have since caught up, but as you can tell they're still no joke.

That big fricking dragon is called Bahamut. And that's not his original form. Bahamut is miles wide, almost the size of a city, according to the lore. You can see his wingspan covering the city of Limsa Lominsa, the one with the blue towers. Limsa is fairly big. And when the characters were trying to seal him, the magic circle needed to be so massive they had to pray on three different shrines scattered across the continent. You can see the planet's curvature when the seal was halfway done. And he managed to nuke Eorzea in less than 2 minutes. There was no reaction, no contingencies. He did what Deathwing could never.

BTW the scale size between Bahamut, the dragon in the video and deathwing......deathwing is as big as bahamuts EYE

You should do The Binding Coils of Bahamut. It will explain what happens after that cinimatic.

It's both very like the Cataclysm trailer for WOW, but also completely different, I bet barely anyone cries watching the Cataclysm one

Can you believe this is how the shut down the 1.0 version of the game? Sure that’s common knowledge by now, but still blows my mind every single time.

I'd say wait on cinematics until you hit that expansion. Some of them have potential spoilers in them.

"it's a dragon" It's not A dragon my child, it is the King of Dragons. To throw out some size comparison between WoW and FF: Deathwing is about the size of Bahamuts footclaw so we definitly got the biggest...dragon

Really quickly, Bahamut, in the trailer, Deathwing from WoW is like... a pisgeon compared to Bahamut in size.

They deadass dropped an endgame boss on an early game party.

Speakers Network has videos series series called The Rise and Fall of Final Fantasy. They detail out some of the issues that plagued the game and why it was better to just let a dragon rampage through the world destroying it then spend time fixing it. I wouldn't watch past episode 6 of the series since the remaining starts getting into more expansions.

after HW the premise of that representing us confuses if you know what I'm talking about with said party in the trailer.

You need to watch Shadowbringers trailer. It's epic. It's what first got me into the game.

Welcome to the fold. My first bit of advice; You 100% SHOULD NOT watch the Heavensward trailer!!!!! It spoils a MAJOR occurrence that happens in the last patch of ARR before going into HW proper. And I do mean MAJOR. So much so, that the devs never did another trailer like that again.

tl;dr, FF's version of WoW's Cataclysm, but instead of remaking the base world, it remade the game.

2 weeks late but something to take from this trailler, the guy with the big axe is canonically the lover of the midged in white (the lalafel white mage)

One of us One of us One of us One of us Take it slow and try to aim for finishing endwalker only slightly before dawntrail releases. Endwalker is a great finale to the 10 year long story but the game content itself is severely lacking and not a lot to do at the moment.

Shame the latest expansion has been a bit of a trash heap, at least for the patch content.
