@@raversmiracle2 Exactly! I'm gonna try to explain something that I think that most Americans just don't get. Almost everybody hates America and England, also because Americans and British themselves are taught in their universities that the USA is Evil, enslaved blacks and are white supremacists and England invaded other countries. They themselves (not all, but a lot of them), go around hating their own countries. This people living in crowded fucked places go trough very bad situations in life, their lives are hard and they have no break from it, I'm not saying that this gives them the right to scam people. However in their minds I bet goes something like: "People from rich countries have it good because they stole it from poorer countries" (typical college professor discourse) "So why can't I take my fare share? Look at America, they throw food away while we starve, so why not take a share for me?"

To any of the other Canadians out there, tell your family to demand a French speaking agent when they get a call from anyone claiming to be from anywhere. As we know, we’re entitled to service in either official language. If they can’t provide service in French, it’s probably scammers. Once they get transferred to French speaker, you can just as easily get transferred back! We came up with this after my mum got scammed.

Indeed. There is no "policy" about things like this, so when they say they can't do anything they really mean they're just lazy and they don't care. The only laws regarding a case like this that banks need to worry about is customer privacy (which is irrelevant because he's not asking for any information, he's providing it), and their legal responsibility to protect a vulnerable person and their finances. If anything, these banks could be sued if it was revealed they were warned about a financial scam in progress and refused to intervene, that makes them potentially complicit in the scam.

@@PinkyFruitcake I get where you are coming from but if that is the basis for not accepting the information then I suspect it’s a misunderstanding of legislation. Legitimate interest allows “…use of people’s data in ways they would reasonably expect and which have a minimal privacy impact, or where there is a compelling justification for the processing.” Besides which there should only really be a problem with GDPR if the organisation keeps or uses the information for inappropriate purposes. The main issue with GDPR is, like H&S and Covid, it’s used as an excuse for not doing things and a general lack of understanding of how to implement it.🥺

I feel your frustration. I once was buying a panel pc for my employer using the accountant's company card. As I completed the transaction, I thought "damn, that processed awful quick..." So, I looked at the confirmation page, which showed the full card info, with a url ending with the transaction number, and got this sinking feeling.. I decremented the transaction number in the url, and as I feared, up pops the transaction of the previous customer. And it had everything, name, card number, billing address, cvn number. Decrementing it again gave me another transaction page, and another.... And this was years ago - a basic panel pc was 2 grand = most of these orders were for multiple units from someone in a company's It department. A few were from corporate officers of mid market conpanies. I *could* have printed off one record after another and started ordering all kinds of stuff. These were cards with high limits and probably no one monitoring transactions until they hit the bank statement. But my righteous anger at this, gross breach, motivated me to do the right thing. I grabbed the accountant = only in the office because of an evening meeting and had her call the bank to cancel the transaction and issue a new card. Then I pondered who to call to report a breech. Called Visa, Mastercard, Amex, Discover. They all told me that the same thing, it had to be reported by the the card holder. Our bank didn't care - they'd already resolved it by reversing the charge and canceling the card. I figured, well it's transactions, crossing state lines, so I called the FBI = they referred me to Homeland Security. I didn't get it - these were all organizations that should give a shit about a data breech. And it wasn't a possible breech - I could give them the url and they could verify it themselves. Finally, I did a dns lookup and called the company's web host. I walked the guy through what I was, seeing and he said "oh, shit.. " I said yup., Your customer may or may not be a crook, but they are definitely dip shits. Before I could suggest redirecting their ecomm url to their site landing page, he had the site shut down completely. I got a call from the owner of the site the next day thanking me. It was a new business and the ecomm pages had been written by the lowest bidder. I just could not believe how much of a hassle it was to get hold of anyone who gave a shit. I do sometimes wonder how far I could have pushed it if I were more larcenous than I am.
