Saurav was a brilliant ODI player of pace and spin. The clip has Pollock, Makhaya, McGrath, Gillespie, Aqib Javed, Kallis, Umar Gul, M Sami, Caddick and Gough, etc being thrashed but still so many sixes haven't made it to this great video. I remember him scoring two centuries against SA in Africa where he wall all over pace, sending it over the rope. He will definitely feature in my Best ODI XI with Sachin opening the line-up and Kohli, Rohit, Yuvraj, Dhoni and Kapil Dev in the batting order.

Some haters say that Sourav Ganguly had weakness against short pitch bowling,or he was uncomfortable in bouncy conditions or his strike rate was low,and he is less effective in comparison to Sachin and dravid,for a minute let's agree with them but the thing is you can't take away the class from Ganguly's batting,in my school days everybody wanted to bat like Sourav Ganguly rather than Sachin and dravid, every kid and even adults were emulating his style of batting,and even some of friends who were right handed batsman, converted them into left hander just to bat like Sourav Ganguly,the fact is dada's sheer class was always awe inspiring

Very true. Although I was originally right handed batsman I turned myself into left handed. The impact of Sourav's batting was so much on me. I'm still a diehard fan of him since childhood.

@@05udc08097 it has always been a treat to watch him. Whether it's 153* against new Zealand or 124 against Pakistan (independence cup) he's a true One Day player. One day opener. He's on peak before becoming captain. The responsibilities and burden did a little dent to his batting performance. Otherwise he would be biggest run scorer in ODI.

Today's bowlers would be breeze for him Almost all except a few like Stark and Cummins, Archer, Wood, Shami ,Rabada, Nortje, Boult and L Ferguson pale in comparison to bowlers of old And a few like Bumrah are inf.overrated

In IPL 2024, where we saw many batting records being broken such as most sixes most 200s and highest team score in t20s and the t20 game changing bumrah got 20 wickets with an economy rate of 6.48. Now in the t20 world cup bumrah's economy rate was 4.17 which is now the best economy rate in t20 world cup history. He deserves to be ranked as the best bowler cricket currently has at present.

It has been long time since long time since S G retired from international cricket. He absolutely deserved to be inducted to ICC hall of fame. 42 average in both odi and test with 18500+ international runs with 38 centuries playing biggest part of career during the era of bowler batsman fair domination. Sadly he is not ICC of hall of fame really surprising.

He was a trendsetter in the sense that he was the first batsman who would step out to fast bowlers and hit their good balls down the ground for sixes. Even today, most batsman only hit sixes off bad short balls or leg side half volleys, to the square boundary.

Dada didn't had extremely powerful arm unlike dhoni but still dada managed to hit long sixes,and mind it dada's sixes were even bigger than dhoni's sixes, especially against spinner, Sourav Ganguly used his foot work and his impeccable timing to hit big sixes,and the kind of bowlers we are seeing today, Ganguly would have devoured them

@mns ta may be he is strong,but certainly not as strong as Ms Dhoni,i agree dhoni doesn't have huge frame like mathew Hayden or chris Gayle,but certainly dhoni possessed more power than them, despite being not as talented or as gifted batsman as dada or virat ,dhoni had maximize his talent by using his enormous strength and tireless efforts

Ganguly also hit huge 6 against Dale Styen, but it was in ipl against RCB and the shot was majestic.. Ganguly unfortunately played Dale Styen later part of his career, just 2-3 yrs before his retirement, else we could have seen hitting against him in ODIs.. Ganguly's batting avg against South Africa in ODIs is terrific 50.50.. considering 90s and 2000s period where their bowling attack was best in that era with Donald, Pollock, Ntini, Styen, Klusner, Morkel, Neil
