WHY I LOVE PHILIPPINES: TACLOBAN CITY, LEYTE
Tacloban City was briefly the capital of the Philippines under the Commonwealth Government, from 20 October 1944 to 27 February 1945. In an extensive survey conducted by the Asian Institute of Management Policy Center and released in July 2010, Tacloban City ranks as the fifth most competitive city in the Philippines, and second in the emerging cities category. On 8 November 2013, the city was largely destroyed by Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda), having previously suffered similar destruction and loss of life in 1897 and 1912. On 17 January 2015, Pope Francis visited Tacloban City during his Papal Visit to the Philippines and held a mass at Barangay San Jose, and later he led mass of 30,000 people in front of the airport.

Hi, thanks for the info.. Usually we also covered any tourist spots along the way. So it is not necessarily all about a specific place. So if we go to Boracay or elsewhere on land travel, we might be also covering Kalibo tourist spots, or Roxas City, etc.

Hi Perry, yes it is near San Juanico Bridge. I forgot the exact way to go there since it's my first time also.. :) But you can use Google Map or Waze to guide you. Just search for "San Juan Floating Restaurant".

If you’re referring to San Juanico Bridge, no, it’s not. Panahon pa ni President Marcos ginawa ang bridge na yan. It was the longest bridge in the Philippines, “was” because I don’t know if it still holds the title to this day. It’s still one of the most beautiful bridges in the PH in my opinion tho.

Isa pa ang tacloban sa mabagal at di gaanong well-planned na ciudad. Dapat sana kasi babae ang mayor mas maayos at mas maganda. Unfortunately, it's not... Romualdezes and Petillas are not that good, no greater visions for the warays...sana may mala mayor Isko or Vico sa province na iyan!

@@JohnPaulLegaspi After Yolanda was the opportunity to have a comprehensive plan to reduce urban sprawl, improve the ease of travel, preserving the historical and cultural sites, improving the cleanliness of esteros, waterways, and bays. Improve the liveability of tacloban city and maintenance of its green spaces lalo na yung RTR plaza, and reduce reclamation of natural wetlands and destroying the mountains along maharlika!

Why not promote positivity sa life natin. People are trying to forget the past calamities and I know one day, makakamove on din and ma achieve ung pagiging prosperous again ng city..

@@JohnPaulLegaspi I am personally unaware about the political rivalry in the City. However, I was once a visitor and perhaps a client. Due to the increasing difficulty of commute, the farthest point that I can visit now is Marasbaras and the airport. And through the years, I seldom visit the downtown area. Tacloban has an interesting feature for developments and improvements. It is also very strategic, the current national government is very supportive to the warays, especially the Taclobanons. I hope that a comprehensive plan and other innovative developments will be prepared integrating the development agenda of the neigbhoring towns of Leyte and Samar and lobby or present it to the national government for support. It was never my intention to drag local politicians but our province or region is being left out due to disasters and lack of stronger will.
