Signing SB to a Max extension at a Max duration was the top priority for the Raptors off season, I like that they got it out of the way so early, Next up IQ. This is year 1 of the off season, but off to a good start

@@vintagepimpage6049 2023 stats FVV- 17.4 ppg, 3.8 reb, 8.1 ast Scottie-19.9 ppg, 8.2 reb, 6.1 ast FVV all star year he had 20.3 ppg. Scottie in his third year has already had a better season than any FVV season. Scottie affects the game way more than FVV. I’d say Scottie is light years ahead of FVV when he was in his third year and Scottie will be light years ahead of FVV when it’s all said and done.

@@vintagepimpage6049 This is patently untrue. Scottie will become a lockdown defender during this contract while continuing to bump up his offense. Fred is playing well and controlling the offense for Houston and sharing the ball when appropriate, but Scottie is already more valuable than Fred.

@@giovanni-ed7zq yes. After next season is in 2 seasons. Also the 270 figure is only if he makes All-NBA or All-D next season. Otherwise it's 225m. (Although if he made All-NBA that would likely mean the team is also doing well, so I wouldn't not want that.)

Well... Gordon Hayward makes $31.5 million, Bradley Beal makes $46 million. Both of those guys can't even defend and are injury prone. I would rather pay guys in their prime (and improving) like Scottie.

I'll say this proud, although Scottie is a great player and deserves his $, his loyalty to Toronto is non-existent. Gone are the days where people like Freddie, Kyle or Demar would embrace the culture, raise their family here and be one of us. I get it, look where loyalty has taken them, although one can argue it got them their Bag above all else. Maybe its because Scottie is young, but he's staying in Florida and will probably jump to Miami in a heartbeat if offer the opportunity. I don't see him as Toronto's savior.

You can't expect young American millionaire athletes or celebrities to stay in Toronto forever. Fred only stayed here because he was treated well and paid a lot. But once Houston threw around that huge cap space, it wasn't a shock to see him leave. Demar was unique. Kyle would have stayed if the team had remained competitive. I think Serge also would have stayed here but Toronto was chasing Giannis and made an insulting offer to him.

Because IQ’s cap hold is so low it’s important to do all other work before doing the IQ deal. They can agree behind the scenes but cap wise it makes bad business sense to announce the IQ deal

Its why jakob poeltl is likely gone this summer. after scottie barnes, contract and immanuel quickley going to get 30-32 million a year for 4 years, there is zero cap space next year. they probably let agbaji walk next year as well cuz they cant give him a raise even if he improves.

Nice to see Scottie locked in, but no clue how you are going to build a balanced roster with salaries like this. Honestly, unless they luck out on (weak) draft night, the Raptors could be awful next year. Same team as last year minus Gary??? Perhaps a sign and trade or having enough cap space to miraculously bring in someone like Jalen Smith could help, but it’s not like Toronto is a prime free agent destination.

I was just really hoping that Toronto could land a solid (not a star) free agent this year. If they could somehow keep Gary and add a free agent like Jalen Smith, I think they would be VERY competitive.

Scottie Barnes goes from getting around $10 million per year, and soon he'll be getting around $38 mill a year , bumping each year . I would be better with him getting $15-$20 mill a year to start, then bump by a few 2 or 3 mill a year. With the way players are getting paid, it's no wonder teams can't build around them, since their salary cap is a problem . P.S. it's funny how these players think that $10-$20 mill isn't enough to live off . Do some really need $60 mill a year ? it makes me less interested to watch these players , since all they want to do, is get paid .

@@N0body999 he can draw out contracts however he wants, just the increase bothers me, when he has just been in the league for a few years . I just hate how often it happens . Ben Simmons went from getting $8m , to about $30m, after 1 good playoff , just the amount from the previous makes no sense to me , good for them, just doesn't help the team when $38 mill a year goes to 1 player, instead of 3 for that price .

Contracts are what they are. Max deals are what they are and everything is based around the cap hits. Not a ton of room for negotiation until you reach contract 3+.

@@kuruptflip21 i know it's not my money, but i can disagree with it, how does this help the team , by paying this amount to 1 player ? Did we do well when Siakam and Van Fleet were paid a lot ? after Kawhi left, we started to struggle some seasons .
