On the new-to-me TE250 I just picked up, I'm going to be doing this job, along with re-spinging for my weight.... You've inspired me to get in there and do it on my own...thanks Morgan 💪

great informational video! i sent my 4cs forks out twice since I've had the bike to be rebuilt due to not having the time or correct tools however this video has opened my eyes to how easy it is to do simple maintenance on the forks. I may swap out the springs as well

Thank you for posting this video!!! I have a question. Is it ok to remove the fork cap without releasing rebound adjuster all the way out? I crashed on MX track and adjuster snapped off completely.. so I cannot touch the adjuster at all and don’t remember how many clicks... if you can give me advice, really appreciate it! Masaaki
@highlandcycles
@highlandcycles 4 жыл бұрын
You can do it without doing that. I would recommend getting a new cap though and re adjust your clickers. It’s just a better way to do it. If you can’t swing that then you’ll be fine.

Use eye protection and when you spray the parts cleaner put on your facemask so you're not breathing that stuff directly into your lungs. You should lube up the seals and bushings before installation. Thanks for the posting!

Am I missing something with the bushings? The black coating is the friction side! The inner side of the top bush has nothing sliding against it. Maybe it turns on the shaft but the outside black coating is what the outer tube slides on. The smaller bush has the black coating on the inside because that's where the stanchion slides.
@highlandcycles
@highlandcycles 4 жыл бұрын
You are right and that is a place to check for sure but that side holds up really well. The other side, the side that nothing actually slides on shows heat and deformation that you can’t see from the other side.

I see that you fit the seal dry where others apply a little oil or grease. What are the pros/cons of doing this?
@highlandcycles
@highlandcycles 4 жыл бұрын
I sometimes put some grease on it too. It depends on how dry the tube is when I’m installing them. You definitely want something slippery on there when first installing to keep the lip of the seal from flipping.

If you aren’t using an impact you might need to. If you are then you might have to get the actual holder for the cartridge

@@highlandcycles I have nothing to measure that
@highlandcycles
@highlandcycles 2 жыл бұрын
@@bryantucker1270 you don’t have a tape measure? You can fill the fork with the spring out, pump it a bunch and bleed the air out then collapse the fork and measure down from the edge. If it’s a little too much oil, pour some out. If it’s not quite enough then add some. The reason you are getting different numbers is that the amount is a little different from bike to bike and people like more or less oil depending on how stiff they want it to feel. The air gap is the way the manufacturer measures it and how suspension tuners do it.

When I'm adding oil to my 4cs forks when it's up side down it leaks out the bottom does that mean there is a seal that's damaged the cartridge appears to be all the way in
