Very well done and informative video for us laypersons wishing to learn Mike. Many thanks for not compromising your video and making us suffer through some horrible background music or for trying to appear cool by wearing some stupid oversized hat that covers half your ears and asking ,Whazup people? thanks for the explanation, I'm picking up a 2019 FE450 tomorrow and was thinking of putting air forks on it. I presume the 125/250/350/450 SX all have different valving to some extent, not just rely on different air PSI?

John, we tailor each valving setting for each rider and model / year. The AER48 fork is 950mm long and the XPLOR fork that comes on the FE is 928mm. So the fork is a lot longer creating a chassis balance issue. We can not shorten Air forks. You should maybe consider and older set of cone valve forks that are 940mm 2015 or even 2016-2019 Cone Valve Forks 945mm. Thanks for watching!

I bought a brand new in the box set of 2019 AER48s from Alta for the MXR that they were liquidating when the went through bankruptcy. I believe them to have the "mx spec" valving since that is what the model number and invoice tell me. Would you be able to give me the stock XC valving specs, so that I can make the forks a little more for my type of riding?

Is the aer48 fork on xcf and sxf the same, valving and all?

Some have used Nitrogen. I would recommend a Spring conversion kit that eliminates the air cartridge. give us a call for options 800-221-7560

I use Nitrogen in my AER fork. The air pressure inside the fork remains extremely consistent. Not only is Nitrogen less prone to expanding under extreme conditions it is pure meaning there’s zero contaminants and zero moisture. Assuming your shrader valve is clean and dry. In 2018 i had FC set up the suspension on my 2017 KTM 250 XC. TBH, i never was happy with it. The clickers seemed to be non functional and it felt to me like the rear spring was too hard or had too much preload. I could not get the rear of the bike to stop trying to endo over every dang water breaker. I eventually bought an SKF glide kit for the fork, took some preload out of the rear spring and switched to 3w shock oil. Forks are much better now but still not 💯 tickled to death with the rear shock. Bout time for a new scoot anyway.

I still don't understand like which fork leg does the work. Does the left side (air fork) extend the fork when it's compressed and the right side (dampening) fork compresses to actually soften the ride? Or like why can you press the right fork fully with your hands when it's of the bike, but you can't do the same for the air fork side?

The RH fork is the fork with the Valving / Damping. Off the bike this side you can compress. The LH is the air side fork. When air pressure is set and off the bike the fork will not compress easily, unless a very low air pressure is set. On the bike the forks work together. Lower air pressure is a way to tune the fork softer / stiffer and will affect ride height. It is an AIR SPRING instead of a COIL SPRING. The RH fork Compression and Rebound also are tuning adjustments on the damping side for softer / stiffer preferences and tuning.

Is it normal to be able to compress the right (dampening) fork fully with my hands when the fork is fully removed from my ktm?

Ewan, Yes that is normal as it is the damper side only and no main spring.

I know this an old post but I am in need of some help. I have a 22 85sx and I am trying to set it up for my daughter. She weighs about 85lbs fully geared up. The bike currently is too stiff for her. Is there stuff I can do without having internals changed out?

I recommend the following Fork: 68psi 5mm Fork Height 14 Comp 12 Reb Shock: 16 LSC 2.5 HSC 13 Reb 120mm Rider Sag. He is borderline needing softer 3.5kg shock spring call us if you need more help or Revalve information - Thanks Steve Ross 603-664-2221
