WPL C54-1 1/16 Scale : Can You Have Fun With a Stock C54-1? (Please check description)

This is a stock RTR C54-1 with homemade weighted wheels .
You will see that the truck is stalling at some points and is weak with its tiny motor making it a bit hard to control on low speeds. If you aren't familiar with WPL,you should know that the stock RTR trucks have nice hardbodies (for the price) but they are in need of upgrades,if you would like a more hobby grade rc.
Don't panic,you will not need much! (Links below)
Usually my go to are :
a) WPL 4x4 metal upgrade
b) two speed gearbox
c) weighted wheels
d) electronics literally of your choice(Hobbywing 1060 or a WPL V3 normally is what i use)
Anything else is up to you as i tend to mostly work on their awesome hardbodies and maybe some shocks for upgrades..
In the case of this newly released C54-1,it has a revised new gearbox but a small 260 brushed motor,you can directly install a 370 motor( i have one ordered).More powerful esc of somekind is a must as you can witness and you are set.
Again,anything else is up to you!
I prefer to buy KM kits and then just add the electronics of my own,the c54-1 is not yet available in KM kits.

I love this body style and I am so glad that WPL got one out a few years ago. To this day, only FMS has come out with one but only smaller! I think I ran a 260 in mine for a few times until it just couldn't take anymore. I was very surprised how much it ran before it didn't. You should definitely take this rig to the next level if you had any plans to. It gets my vote.

Love the body style of the lc80, and I like the new features on the new version, I am waiting for a 370 motor to arrive to try it first before swapping to another gearbox. I am impatient to work on this beauty though I need to get the parts first

Indeed the body looks realistic, love it so far as I love all the generations of land cruisers. Can't wait start working and upgrading it.Thanks for commenting Fortes_RC_Adv!

I installed a 2 speed gearbox, a Hobbywing 1060 and use a spare radio/receiver. The difference is like night and day. I did try using a 370 motor but it eventually damage the stock gearbox after a run.

The two speed is unbelievable on low speed if you can "hide" it's belly..My favorite drive train from wpl till now. Too bad your stock gearbox broke. Just a question, was your pinion position adjusted?

@@ScaleCustomCrawlers-SCC Yes, it was. The culprit was the bigger plastic gear next to the pinion. There was a tiny crack near the shaft thus the gear does not grip the shaft tightly.

@@papalel That's too bad unfortunately, you were lucky having that two speed around. I will try my luck with the 370 at first, eventually though I will upgrade the gearbox to something else as you did.

Does this rig come with locked differentials? Because in the video I think I sometimes hear the motor spinning before the wheels turn or the truck moves, so I'm guessing open diffs? Or maybe locked rear and open front? Cheers!

Hello radiocontrolled9181! All WPL models come with locked differentials.. Stock or upgraded WPL electronics can be a bit noisier. I think what you are hearing is the esc engaging at my thumb before the truck gets actual power. Keep in mind, while I do love working on wpls, rtr trucks are weak, wpl v3 board is awesome for what is. I also, ordered the new esc wpl released to use with my preferred receiver. I have to try it first

I have the MN99s which is also with locked differentials and in which I also installed my Flysky receiver to use with my personal transmitter. And changed to brushless motor as well, stock gearbox. More torque and some more top speed. Keep up the good work bro 💪💯 👍
