The 1st BK primes you to think of lives as a finite resource, BT throws that out the window. Makes me wonder when we all collectively agreed to get rid of Life systems, like when we all agreed to stop making high scores a thing.

Yeah there is 0 punishment and the game places you where you last entered the world from which can be multiple different locations due to the interconnectivity of the game. This allows for some creative route choices that save a boatload of time over the course of the run

Also, in BK, if he was doing 100%, you would be gaining max life energy as you collect Extra Honeycombs, so setting up deathwarps takes more time and detours to do so. Throwing away the life system and causing the Max Life Ups to be optional (you trade them to the Queen Bee) makes it easier and more paramount to setup death warps.

Yeah it’s so wide open it’s hard to get an idea the most effective route

I think some other speed runners didn’t know as well it wasn’t used for a long time but it can be helpful

I could do proper post commentary for this while skipping over all the boring parts of the run, actually sounds like a fun thing to do when I feel like getting back into the game

@@prizm9515 There was a new TerryDactyLand 1 Route over the previous WR which saves around ~30 seconds. This run also did the Star Spinner Jiggy as Mumbo saving an additional ~20 seconds (this one has been around for a long time but no one did it in runs as before it was not nessecary and is quite difficult). Other improvements are the Canary Mary clockwork warp ~10 seconds, the Oogle Boogle Cutscene overlap ~12 seconds and various other smaller movement optimizations. I would guess in total all the smaller stuff would add up to about 1:30 of timesave overall.

@@falcon4461 I've never seen like any Tooie speedruns so forgive me, Why do you fight Hag-1 from the boss replay menu? How did you get the food through Witchyworld without having to go through the hole in Area 51? I haven't fully finished watching yet, but still it's been a very enjoyable run ^^

@@toasty8120 It saves nearly 20 minutes to wrong warp to hag 1 and do the fight in the middle (you need to do it now because this warp can only be done before completing the saucer of peril. The timesave comes from skipping the last 2 puzzles and the entire last level (Klungo 3, 11 minute long quiz show) For smuggling the food on the train all you have to do is have both burgers and fries in your inventory and leave the train fast enough. The game only takes them away one at a time so it wont take both away giving you enough time to comfortably leave the train. Even if this was not a thing we would not come back with claw clambers as you can also abuse the games death system to enter Witchyworld from the TDL Area 51 entrance, collect 1 food item and then deathwarp up there.

I have had multiple people ask me about it and I do think its a good idea, whenever I get the itch to run this game again I will definitely do that.

Yeah it’s a cool trick, it doesn’t save a lot of time like 6 seconds or so and it’s quite easy to go up the slope, the hard part is not building snow on the way there, I do very specific movement to avoid snow since you can’t climb unless you’re the smallest snowball

It was intentional. I had it held down with a rubber band because skipping text is L + R + B at the same time so I don't have to move my hand on the N64 controller to press L. This doesn't work in Banjo-Kazooie because L disabled other abilities

I never used dragon kazooie, not even once. Its pretty terrible.

@@PLF... it's legitimately a straight upgrade from Kazooie, the only thing you lose is her normal attacks which have pretty pathetic range to begin with... Infinite fire eggs is far more useful than I'd have ever thought

Stop and swap related item. It's listed in the items part of the totals and pretty much like Crash and Spyro Fusion you'd need other games.

Oh, well, I can't stop reading those kind of comments. I usually say nothing but this is absolutely too much exaggerated for me here : I have passed the rematch on my first try, and have done it first try everytime I replay the game. Never use the pause buffering. I don't understand why it's hard for some people, but I can assume it. Nevertheless, let's also remember that this is ridiculously easy for some players too.

@@waxy1885 I think the rematch might have been nerfed in a later version, but the main problem is its catchup mechanic where it will rubber band faster than the engine can handle inputs if you go at the end at full speed, meaning the game actually punishes you for playing perfectly. What you have to do is slow down near the end and THEN start increasing your speed.

Witchyworld 1 failed gondola DCW + inferno climb, Jelly Castle Escape and a slow Quality control early disagree with that. Those few things were the "biggest" mistakes however which is very good for me and for a run this long but there are also plenty of small things I lost time to as well as bad RNG all over the place. Thank you regardless tho because I am proud of this run. Don't plan on running it again

Thank you! I'm very pleased with the majority of this run, for the most part my entire endgame (Hailfire to GI) was the best I've played Tooie barring Jelly Castle. I was planning to play this category more but honestly the effort isnt worth the time now that i have WR and a mostly solid run as I want to do other things.

@@samalford7306 That's actually surprisingly easy compared to a lot of the other stuff in the run. I would say doing star spinner as Mumbo is probably the trick I practiced the most for this run.

I played this game a lot as a kid and was kind of following along nodding like “ya, that makes sense, oh that’s cool” until 2 hours in you skip straight to the grunty fight, save and quit, go to the fuel depot in GGM and then somehow warp back to the grunty fight. I have no idea what happened there and would love to watch an explanation video if it exists.

Yeah I agree. That mid game trick with Hag 1 was surprising, not sure what it does but maybe I'll catch on inna lil bit. Lol

It’s one of the hardest things to learn since he’s on a cycle so you have to be quick and not miss shots. I made it look easy but it absolutely is not and can go very wrong

Yes it counts, if I were to go back to the arena it would be empty. The reason that works is I interrupt the cutscene of the saucer entering witchyworld when I’m on the gondola and use it right after hitting the switch with a grenade. Because you can complete this event in either glitter gulch mine or witchyworld depending on the order you do the events (press button or blow up rocks with detonator) the game determines where to place you after both flags have been hit. However since I interrupted the cutscene with the button the game has not placed me and in memory has stored to place me at last cutscene watched. The thing is this can be ANY cutscene in the game not just the 2 associated with the saucer box. We finish this event much later when I enter fuel depot which finishes the cutscene of the box being transported out of GGM but then freezes on the loading zone as it searches for what the last cutscene watched is, since it’s hag 1 I get placed in the real hag 1 fight. Another way to prove it’s real is all the egg counts carry over when they don’t do that in the boss replay as well as if u complete the boss replay it kicks you back into that menu and doesn’t take you back to the main menu.

Secret to what? Most of what I did to learn the game was watch pjiis previous WRs and ask some questions, some more complicated stuff had tutorials that I watched to learn them but there really isn’t any secret it’s just a lot of time to learn and master everything

Yeah its pretty hard but saves 20 seconds, you have to catch the planet cycle and then jump at the right time in the planets rotation so it pushes you up, as soon as you land a 1 second timer starts that we can't reset, if I'm touching the planet past this time I will slide off.

It’s honestly an overrated part of the run if you really struggle you can sandbag kinda late in the race and then spam ahead and win every time if you really have to

There are a ton more uses not seen in this run, they really didn’t think it through with their collection ability. Casually they are only hard required for rocknuts in terrydactyland and super stash in cloud cuckooland

But you have to talk to him first and give him his shit and stuff but after that you can turn to mumbo in that green area.

It's used for every mumbo visit except for Mayahem Temple, and you can both talk to him and give him the glowbo from there.

@@JSSTyger personally I prop the controller up between my knees and use both my index fingers alternating to mash the A button, you don't have to go ham because the race is very long. Its important to not drop A presses and keep a consistent semi-fast rhythm.

I got unlucky and got the 3rd code. There are 3 different codes which is random every time and finding out what the code is is way too slow when you can just guess. I Lost about 17 seconds to first try and 9 to second try

It's technically faster to do the hag 1 early bitclip used in any% in this category and do Hag 1 at the very end, using the DCW to credits instead but it saves very little time and in a long run like that it's pretty sabotage to do a trick as punishing and precise as a bit clip after 4 hours. But yeah It is kinda anti-climatic like this but that last room with the roller jump is still extremely tense.

The old 3 hour any% without DCW was in GDQ 1 time all the way back in 2014. I tried submitting both that and 100% in the past but have no interest in doing online GDQ so I haven't been submitting. The game isn't very popular and GDQ doesn't usually accept many N64 games so its pretty unlikely to get in.

because doing Hag 1 then allows us to refill on eggs but the main reason is that we DCW (essentially wrong warp) into the fight skipping the entire last level which saves nearly 20 minutes.

@@roddydykes7053 its not the main reason we DCW halfway in but its a big plus. The main reason is we HAVE to do Hag 1 before we go back to Witchyworld.

if you have both burgers and fries and leave fast enough you keep the fries, its not really tight but u cant be standing around really

all cheats are banned in normal speedruns, there is a 100% with cheats category a few people have ran

No, it is random which potion you get on N64, can be Red Green or Blue. Once he uses one he cannot use the same potion in the next fight. On Xbox however the pattern is set and you always get Red first.
