Know for a fact he isn't cheating (by looking anyway) because I discovered the same strat a few years ago but it's unreliable, and he got REALLY lucky. It has to do with the way the sensor bar handles the flick. It thinks he's twisting the remote to curve the ball, but because he's doing the flick motion so quickly, the sensor bar can't really tell which direction the remote twisted, but it still registers as a twist motion, so it just does it's best to guess the direction and gives more or less the same sideways velocity every time, as it's input is unreliable. Given that he throws from the middle when he's getting spares (cause he has no idea where the pins are), the ball twisting dramatically to one side will often get him a spare if the remaining pins are near that side. This is supported by the same glitch not working in wii sports resort due to the addition of the wii motion plus attachment. The gyroscope in the attachment provides data that the remote is being flicked, not twisted, and it works with data from the sensor bar to more accurately track the players movement.

Ok, here’s the explanation for the spares: In the original Wii Sports, the game assists you when you bowl with a curve. That way, any set of one or two pins on either corners was automatic a long as Nicro threw it with curve. It happens every time, so he’s not cheating whatsoever.

I think Wii Sports bowling is programmed to curve towards the pins if the sensor can't figure out which way you're trying to curve, so by doing a perfect throw it's possible to get a spare most of the time without knowing exactly where the pins are. Just for the people who thinks he's cheating

The game is designed to auto-aim your bowling ball. The wii doesn't have the greatest motion sensor, so to compensate for it, and so that player's dont get frustrated, if the game doesn't detect which way you rotated, but it knows you rotated, it'll auto aim to the side with the most pins. Dude was just salty his 140 record got crushed lmao

Everyone is thinking he's cheating when they all forget this is an early motion control game that likely overcompensates so people don't get pissed with it

Honestly when I used to play Wii bowling back in the day I realized that the sensor bar has nothing to do with it. It’s all the gyroscopes in the Wiimote. You can step into the next room and just use muscle memory to throw.

The lower the throw, the higher the curve. The game automatically curves to where more pins are in Wii Sports. So if only edge pins are missing, doing a roll with a very low throw, it will automatically go that way. However, the strat won't work on separated pins of if a middle pin is the only one missing(i.e 1, 5).

I like how someone thought that throwing straight is immensely more challenging when your blindfolded, as if a blindfold would actually affect that

Seems like y’all don’t know. The game automatically curves the ball. The strength of the curve is determined by how far or close you throw the ball. If you let go early then the ball curves more. If you let go late (basically throwing the ball) it has little to no curve at all. This being said when going for spares the ball will always go in the direction of the pin/most pins. But it’s heavily reliant on how late/early and the position of the pins themselves. In wii sports resort they made it to where you have to control the curve by tilting the wiimote; so it requires more skill. Not down playing the guys video or the supposedly “record holder” for this. Just want everyone to understand why this was happening.

Fun fact: this minigame doesn't use the sensor bar at all. Wii sports use it only for the pointer. The ball trow is calculating the values of the sensors of the wii controller. Nice gameplay and nice record.
