WR250R SHOCK REBOUND FIX- REVALVE DAISY CHAIN

The WR250R has a known suspension flaw, the poor rebound control. This excellent dualsport bike unfortunately has inadequate rebound control, resulting in the back end of the bike kicking up after hitting an obstacle, and potentially tossing the pilot overboard. Adjusting the rebound clicker all the way in still doesn't slow the rebound down enough, therefore the only fix is to re-valve the shock, and upgrade to Gold Valves from RaceTech, provided by Duffs Racing at a discount. Contact Tom at Duffs Racing in Utah, 1-888-756-3613. Good Luck!

Greatexplaining. Im reshimming my stocj shock, I think im gonna add 4 baseshims to stiffen it up over the entire range. Also, the guy who crashed, if you look at the video, his ass was in the seat when the bike flipped him over. Any shock will do that when youre almost sitting down. He's not the only one to ride a bike, whatever the make and model, and have that experience.

Awesome vids. I noticed I get slapped in the ass all the time by my wrr but assumed it was mostly my short legs. I was planning to revalve and get heavier springs for my fat ass. Ill try increasing rebound compression until I do. Im surprised more people dont do their own suspension work. Between the paper manuals you can find, racetech products and their videos and the youtube videos im discovering like yours it makes it possible for average joes.

Maybe they need to hire you to set up their suspensions for them it sure would save a lot of riders. I don't know why because I grew up working on heavy equipment and that has never scared me but bikes have in the past has made me nervous and I think it's due to I am nervous about cracking, stripping, and breaking something. But thanks to your videos I have become a lot less worried about that. Keep up the good work. Stay safe

Wow, this video is proof that spending more doesn't necessarily mean that you are getting a more quality product. I'm very surprised that they would let this fly on the WR. ColoradoDualSport Lol, that is true bro, spending more doesn't necessarily mean better.... It does however cost a fair bit of money to R&D suspension, and to end up with a quality product out of the box, the most applicable example is KTM. Their WP stuff is actually pretty good out of the box. I think companies try to balance budget, cost, and sellability etc, just like all other products we buy....maximizing profit... Oh boy....see how easily distracted I am??????

The rider in the video cased the bike and that is what flipped him. The shock could have had perfect rebound dampening and the outcome would have been exactly the same. The shock needs help but there's no reason to include the video of the wreck as it has nothing to do with the problem.
@MrDuhfactor
@MrDuhfactor 4 жыл бұрын
This portion of the video was only included to show the problem in an exagerated way, and wasnt the only place tested for rebound. Rebound is best tested on successive whoop sections, but you cant see how fast the rebound happens in whoop sections well in a video, even when you slow it down, we tried. Casing it in the first place is due to inadequate compression control.

Hi folks, does the guy not fly over the bars just because the front tire misses the small "hill" and only the rear tire lands on it? I have a question concerning my Wr250x suspension. It is possible that stock it has a different setting than the 250r? The fork's first third of travel is to stiff, even with the softest compression setting it does not feel comfortable, I feel the tiniest bumps in the steering bar. Regards
@andrewstambaugh8030
@andrewstambaugh8030 2 жыл бұрын
No, while hitting like that might be a harder slam, if you look at trial riding, they do that kind of thing all the time. Proper suspension should not turn that slam into a power-vaulting. Notice that he didn't bounce on the seat. He was compressed down on it and then it power-drove upward. This is almost exactly like a judo hip-throw. Hip to hip, tight, and a quick pop; it takes surprisingly little effort to sent someone sailing hind over head. The scary part is the bike goes from normal "it's fine" just sometimes slapping you in the but over woops - to a sudden power launch powerful enough to make you completely clear the bars and it happens so fast you can't do anything about it. Sure he could have gripped the bike more, but even with that it was still powerful enough to launch him and leave him with airtime - no control of the main body of the bike to try land on the seat and recover his feet/pegs, which if you think about airtime is all going to be happening as the bike is going over the next hump! So he's going to land on the seat just in sync with the rear compressing again, so he'll have a loose uncontrolled bike that may be trying to fall over to try to grip as quick as possible while it is mid-vaulting him a second time. That's not even balanced either. If you jumped high and landed hard but even/flat, both ends evenly compressed and you smashed down on the seat, the back end is going buck to try to launch you forward.

Matt Tolman Hi Matt, Usually, People can use a lowering link for their rear shock, and slide up their fork tubes in the triple clamps to drop the bike down. minitstop 's WR has a lowering link, and forks slid up about 1+" and he rides it very well, I think he is about 5'5"? He recommended somewhere to use a lower cut out and narrower seat, which helps, and I've seen some people use smaller diameter wheels, like supermoto wheels with knobbies in order to get the bike even lower. How tall are you, and what bike do you have??

So you just fit a Gold Valve? That will not solve the problem once the shock heats up, especially while loaded. Sorry man, without a shock dyno you have missed the bigger underlying problem. The shock is a Soqi. You could achieve a similar result by adding shims on the stock piston as the more restrictive rebound ports produce more rebound dampening. Fitting a Gold Valve with bigger ports gives less restriction so the valving must be harder. Having said all that, what you have done will make an improvement to the shock, as you have found.
@MrDuhfactor
@MrDuhfactor 9 жыл бұрын
+Nick Dole No, I didn't just put in a gold valve, maybe you didn't watch to the end? All good points, and understood. I like the bigger ports because even though I could have added more shims to slow down the rebound on the stock piston, those small ports always cause harshness that irritates me. I love the smoothness of larger ports, and covered with appropriate shimming to control both rebound and compression as needed. It would surprise me if someone actually would slap in a gold valve and leave the stock shimming, but I suppose there might be someone who would do it. I have tried lots of shocks with shimming designed on a shock dyno, and they are very helpful, but in the end, it's the rider feel and personal preferences that make the suspension good for them. I like using dyno recommendations as a starting point if I have no other option , but in the end, always deviate from it to find the perfect feel for what works best for the rider.
