Newbie builder here.. used your straw method with recent tag wraps but they would come loose when I burnished them. I started adding a wee drop of color preserver just where the two tag ends stuck out then waited to trim them until the CP had dried. No more unravelling. Yay!!! Thanks for sharing that method, it makes a nail knot much nicer than the one where you don't use the straw but trap the threads between your thumb & index finger. Sorry I missed the live stream... next time...

I'm currently building a 10', 2-piece 5wt fly rod for the first time in almost 40 years. That tag wrap technique is new to me and so easy I got it on my first try! Just ordered a dozen different threads and hope to finish the rod by next week with some nice bling like sawtooth wraps and nice tags on the single foot guides above eh two-foot stripping guide. First time ever making my own grip and that went well. Some great videos and I'm watching lots!

@@reelbluecustomrods Sorry about your friend. It's something that seems to hit too many people. A brother Navy Chief and very close friend lost his fight in 2017. I immediately went and got my PSA checked and missed that I probably already had it then. Tell every male 40+ to get their prostate checked.

@@arnoldl.arrington5147 - as you see it in the thumbnail it should be applied to the blank. Meaning, in the thumbnail, the bottom or butt of the rod is at the bottom of the thumbnail.
