WRC Rally Estonia 2023 20 de julho - 23 de julho Don't miss this weekend! As the planned Group S was also cancelled, Group A regulations became the standard in the WRC until 1997. A separate Group A championship had been organized as part of the WRC already in 1986, with Sweden's Kenneth Eriksson taking the title with a Volkswagen Golf GTI 16V.[3] Lancia was quickest in adapting to the new regulations and controlled the world rally scene with Lancia Delta HF, winning the constructors' title six years in a row from 1987 to 1992. Kankkunen and Miki Biasion both took two drivers' titles with the Lancia Delta HF. The 1990s then saw the Japanese manufacturers, Toyota, Subaru and Mitsubishi, become title favourites. Spain's Carlos Sainz driving for Toyota Team Europe took the 1990 and 1992 titles with a Toyota Celica GT-Four. Kankkunen moved to Toyota for the 1993 season and won his record fourth title, with Toyota taking its first manufacturers' crown. Frenchman Didier Auriol brought the team further success in 1994, and soon Subaru and Mitsubishi continued the success of the Japanese constructors. Subaru's Scotsman Colin McRae won the drivers' world championship in 1995 and Subaru took the manufacturers' title three years in a row. Finland's Tommi Mäkinen driving a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution won the drivers' championship four times in a row, from 1996 to 1999. Mitsubishi also won the manufacturers' title in 1998. Another notable car was the Ford Escort RS Cosworth, which was specifically designed for rallying. It was the first production car to produce downforce both at front and rear.

Group A was the better of the two, as rules dictated that 5000 must be produced world wide, which meant that rally enthusiast's could buy roadcar versions of the rally cars they were seeing each weekend.. Also by the end of group A, they were much faster than group B, due to advances in aero, ect.

2018 Focus RS, and Impreza WRX STI would be competitive with these cars. And they are our every day road cars. @@SmeiiyOctopus a focus rs would probably be a write off before the end of the rally even without a crash and a damn sight slower, group a cars weren't lancia fulvia and original mini. Road shells wouldn't be strong enough to go flat out. The point is wrc was popular when you could go to a dealership and buy a car that looked and sounds like mcraes car and drives how we imagine mcraes car drove. With no direct relationship between the competition car and the road car there's no purpose in the competition car. I want to buy a road going rally car, but they're all old now, they don't make them anymore, hence why i ride motorbikes, i can still have a road going sbk.
@SmeiiyOctopus
@SmeiiyOctopus 4 жыл бұрын
@@theant9821 trust me I would prefer an older rally car over the cars sold nowadays, but they would be 10× the price and have zero modern comforts.. which brings me back to my original point: the cars of today can hold their own against the older WRC cars and also have GPS, power windows, radios ect. Yeah Subaru isnt selling a WRC spec race car to the public, but that doesn't mean you cant build one from the chassis & motor that they currently sell. Also cant think of any WRC spec car sold from the factory/dealer ever..
@theant9821
@theant9821 4 жыл бұрын
@@SmeiiyOctopus I'm not talking about buy a car prepared to win the monte carlo or 1000 lakes. I'm talking about their nolonger being any relationship whatsoever between the wrc car and any car in the dealership. You park an evo 6 next to tommi makinens evo and other than the sponsors stickers they look the same, have basically the same engine, etc. You could buy a road going version of the rally car. The wrc spec cars have no relation to the road cars because they don't require homologations. Group a, lancia released the delta hf turbo, so it could win the world championship, then the delta integrale to win it again, then the integrale 16 valve so the rally car could have the 16v cylinder head to win it again, then the integrale evoluzione with wider wheel arches to allowfor wider wheels, vents for inproved cooling etc, so the rally car could stay competitive and win more championships. If an rs ford hasn't earned its name on the battlefield of motorsport its not a rallye sport at all, its just another boring fast car. If the car can't win odds are it can't win me over, hence why the the tme evo vi is the last of the breed, the last production homolgated car to win a world championship rally. The escort cosworth wasn't made to make money, ford lost money on every car, due to the fact it wasn't a ford escort in anything but name, it was a short wheelbase Sierra cosworth in an escort costume as the ordinary escort wasn't suitable and the Sierra was too big, so ford made a rally car into a road car and sold it to allow the rally car to go rallying. Modern fast cars are like seeing people dressing up pretending to be war heroes with fake gallantry medals. Its repulsive. Homologation specials are literally competition cars for the road. A focus rs is just a road car for the road, no more special than the base model.

@@andykane439 The Evo III came out in 1995, in the video the model is not an Evo 3 but an Evo 2 that came out in 1993.

Group B is overrated. These cars are immediately quicker and more exciting to watch than the Group B cars that couldn't put their foot down or go around a corner in style. 90's rally wins!

I dont agree. Group B cars were monsters. Pilots had to drive "on eggs". From then it all went downhill (or uphill if you value human life) as the cars became more about safety (style as you put it) and less about beast mode. I like group B and group A for different reasons. But if I had to choose which car to on a ride between a Lancia delta S4 and an HF integrale, I'd choose the S4
